The VVMA provides continuing education programs and conferences, supports its members through mentoring programs, lobbies on behalf of the interests in the field of veterinary medicine and serves as an advocate and voice for the Virginia veterinary medicine community.

Mark R. Finkler, D.V.M., serves as the president of the Virginia Veterinary Medical Association (VVMA), a professional organization of veterinarians dedicated to preserving and enhancing the quality of human and animal life through veterinary medicine. Finkler is a small animal practitioner and the owner of Roanoke Animal Hospital, an AAHA accredited hospital. He earned his Bachelor of Science and Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from The Ohio State University. Currently, he is also an adjunct professor at the Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine in Blacksburg, Va., where he teaches an elective in ferret medicine and surgery. Finkler is a member of many local, state and national veterinary organizations, served on the VVMA board from 1998 to 2001 and is past president of Saint Francis Service Dog Foundation of Roanoke, VA.
