Brian A. Wong is a direct support professional, supporting adults with autism and other developmental and intellectual challenges. Having overcame his own challenges with Asperger’s Syndrome has helped him a great deal in his job. In May 2013, he received his B.A. in Psychology and minor in Counseling from Marshall University in Huntington, West Virginia where he was a student in the College Program for Students with Autism Spectrum Disorder.During college, Brian volunteered in hospice and at bereavement camps for families and children. Prior to working in the field of developmental challenges, Brian interned in psychiatric rehabilitation; he led classes in a day program including two workshops on bereavement and has experience in supported employment for individuals with severe mental health and co-occurring substance use issues.He has presented on the topic of bereavement and autism at the 13th Annual Marshall University of College of Liberal Arts Conference and the 22nd Annual Tri-State Psychology Conference at the University of Charleston in April 2013. In July 2013 he presented at the Autism Society of America National Conference in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He has also been published in the Spring 2013 edition of the Autism Advocate, published by the Autism Society of America, and in June 2013 appeared on Autism Radio’s show “Hope Saves the Day”.
