Since 1981, the association and its 34 local chapters have been providing expert service to more than 2,600 members oversee sports fields and facilities at schools, colleges and universities, parks and recreational facilities, and professional sports stadiums.
Jeffrey Fowler is the District Director for Venango, Clarion, Warren and Forest Counties in Northwest Pennsylvania. Since 1988, he has been working for Penn State University in Cooperative Extension. In addition to being District Director, Fowler is the Western Pennsylvania Turf Educator and serves 20 counties. In this role, he visits sports facilities and golf courses at the local, state and national levels, often being a neutral party arbitrator between school boards, greens committees, league officials, employees and administrators.A STMA member since 1999, he is currently serving as the Chair of the Conference Education, the Turfgrass Curriculum and the Information Outreach Committees. Fowler has been a volunteer for the Little League World Series grounds crew for 15 years. He also is the volunteer field manager for his local little league. Since 2003, he has served on the KAFMO Board of Directors, which is an affiliated chapter of STMA.Fowler was honored by the STMA with the 2005 Dr. William H. Daniel “Founder’s Award” for his excellence and dedication to sports turf research and education.
