Melissa Berryman is a former animal officer who began teaching when area dog trainers would not, and in some cases, could not offer assistance to some of the dog owners in her community. Due to her vast experiences when relationships soured between owners and their dogs, she began including the safety and liability information crucial to form problem free and life-long dog/owner bonds. As a former horse owner, she designed her instruction to focus on the skills and abilities of everyone in the family. Employing her own dogs, students are able to hone their skills and participate together. Her new book, “People Training for Good Dogs What Breeders Don’t Tell You and Trainers Don’t Teach”, details the societal messages that contribute to the failures that end dog/owner relationships and offers solutions and support. Currently she is establishing a non-profit to provide safety and liability education options for communities following nuisance or bite incidents.Melissa holds a bachelor’s in pre-vet medicine from UNH and a master’s in public administration/non-profit management. She lives with her husband Mark, three dogs and two cats on Cape Cod where she teaches, provides boarding and daycare services as well as complementary support services including acupressure, Tuina, EFT, reiki and Mind, Body and Spirit Workshops for Dog Owners.
