How to choose the best work-from-home business opportunity for you

How to choose the best work-from-home business opportunity for you

For many men and women, a work-from-home model is ideal to preserve flexibility and family life. With the sea of home-based business franchises, it can be overwhelming to select the one that’s right for you. Here are some do’s and don’ts to consider when choosing home-based earning opportunity.

Do

Do choose a company with a positive track record

Conducting due diligence when looking potential business opportunities is crucial. Find out all you can about the company. How long have they been in business? Are they growing? Are they rated by the Better Business Bureau? Look for news articles that mention the company to see if they are well-regarded.

Do select a company that offers unique products or services

If you are going to represent a service or product line, make sure the offering is unique. If your potential customers can easily get that product or service elsewhere, and perhaps cheaper, you instantly diminish your opportunity for growth and earnings.

Do look at how the product line or service offerings relates to current trends

Choose a product or service with “today value.” Are you addressing a popular need or providing a solution to a prevalent problem? You want a product or service that people are talking about. For example, environmental and sustainable products are ideal in this eco-conscious society.

Do pick a business model that has an inherently high reorder rate

You don’t want to spend every moment of the day searching for new customers. Instead, you want to establish a customer base that will regularly reorder from you. Find a business opportunity in which the products or services will require or inspire on-going retrial.

Do be sure that you are mentally prepared to self-motivate to maximize your earning potential

Before you jump into a work-from-home business, know thyself. Are you ready to get up and go each day? Working on your own from home can be lonely sometimes. However, if you’re prepared to face each day and challenge with vigor, the financial and personal rewards can be tremendous.

Don't

Do not choose an inventory-based business

The last thing you want is a living room filled with boxes of product. You don’t want to navigate the inherent challenges of product shipping delivery to your customers. Choose an opportunity as hands-free as possible. Make sure there are business systems in place to minimize your legwork and maximize your earning potential.

Do not get into a scenario which requires an entry fee or large up-front investment

Most likely you’re seeking a work-from-home business because you need to earn more money. In that case, an entry fee or large up-front investment may not be possible – or could put you in even more debt. There are many good business opportunities out there that do not require a fee to get started.

Do not be burdened with a business model that entails home parties

Whether or not you like the idea of running home parties, there are times when it’s just not convenient. If you’re ill, you either have to scramble to find someone to replace you – or cancel the party altogether. Now you’re out income. What if you have a family emergency or want to take a vacation? That’s time you’re not making money. Find an earning opportunity that works even when you can’t physically be there.

Do not select what is a called a stairstep breakaway plan

Some multi-level marketing plans require that you are responsible for both personal and group sales volumes. Volume is created by recruiting and selling the product. If you become a group leader, it means you have recruited one or more salespeople. Once predefined volumes are achieved, you move up a step. This continues until you "break away" from your recruits. From that point on, the new group is no longer considered part of your group - hence you are a "breakaway". Now you no longer benefit financially from the group you created. You want a business opportunity in which you continue to reap benefits.

Do not pick a business model that holds you to meeting quotas

Not only are quotas nerve-wracking, they can be self-defeating. If your income is solely based on reaching mandatory quotas, you are imposing stress on your potential to earn. There are many work-from-home business opportunities that do not require the meeting of quotas. Replace your perspiration with inspiration.
