It is human nature to say things like “I don’t want to smoke anymore” or “I do not want to be overweight”. I will then say, “No, I said “try” and pick up that pencil”. Sometimes we will go through rounds of them “doing“ instead of trying. That is when we end up in laughter and the point has reached home.
Often, people might say, “I have been curious about hypnosis but I am sure that I can’t be hypnotized.” The truth of this matter is that anyone of average intelligence or above, can be hypnotized. First of all, only a very light level of hypnosis or relaxation is necessary to create behavioral change with hypnosis. Secondly, all of us are hypnotized over and over throughout the course of each and every day.
Hypnosis occurs when you are reading a book, watching TV and playing computer games. You do not have to have your eyes closed to be hypnotized. Are you aware of how damaging it can be for a human being who is in the midst of disease to hear these words from their doctor, “you have 3 months to live”. Often that is exactly the outcome. What does that say to you?
