Dr. Ellen D. Fiedler, Professor Emerita from the Master in Arts in Gifted Education (M.A.G.E.) program at Northeastern Illinois University, is currently a private educational consultant. She regularly provides professional development for school districts and other educational agencies, presentations for parents, and a wide range of consultation services related to gifted students and their education. Her Ph.D. in Counseling and Guidance came from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and she worked at the Guidance Institute for Talented Students there as a Research Assistant to the director. Her Masters degree was in elementary education with an emphasis on gifted children. She has been a Gifted Program Coordinator and a State Consultant for Gifted and has provided consultation services and presentations locally, regionally, nationally, and internationally, including at state, national, and international conferences. She was chair of the Counseling and Guidance Division of the National Association for Gifted Children (NAGC), co-chair of the Global Awareness Division, and currently is Newsletter Editor for the Global Awareness Network of NAGC. She is a published author, including writing numerous articles in professional journals, a chapter on psychosocial issues for the gifted, and chapters on gifted adults in Living with Intensity and in Off the Charts: Asynchrony and the Gifted Child. She is currently completing a book on gifted adults that will be published by Great Potential Press.Ellen lives in Florida during the winter and in southwest lower Michigan in the summer and is a member of the Florida Association for the Gifted, a member and Past President of the Michigan Association for Gifted Children, and a member of the Illinois Association for Gifted Children, the National Association for Gifted Children (NAGC) and the World Council on Gifted and Talented. She co-authored the state guide to diversity and equity for gifted programs in Illinois and serves as a State of Illinois Trainer for the Gifted Education Seminars. She is an avid sailor with an old wooden sailboat that she typically sails single-handed on Lake Michigan and initially became involved in gifted education as a parent of two profoundly gifted children.
