Dr. Joanna Simpson is an Assistant Professor of English & Literacy Education at Kennesaw State University. At KSU, she also coordinates the Gifted Endorsement Program, and the Middle Grades Urban Education Option. Dr. Simpson is an expert on gifted adolescent education and adolescent literacy. Before moving into higher education, Dr. Simpson was a gifted facilitator and an English teacher at an inner-city high school for nearly 10 years. Her research focus is on the scholarship of teaching and learning related to the socioemotional needs of gifted adolescents, differentiated methods to promote literacy in urban middle/secondary classrooms, and young adult literature that fosters critical literacy.
