Can I Play the Same Destiny 2 Account on PC and PS5?

As a hardcore Destiny 2 player and content creator, one of the most common questions I see is whether or not you can play with the same account on both PC and PlayStation 5.

The answer is yes, absolutely! Destiny 2 has full cross-save support across all major platforms. In this guide, I‘ll cover everything you need to know about crossaving your Destiny 2 progress between PC and PS5.

An Overview of Cross-Save in Destiny 2

First introduced in 2019, Destiny 2‘s cross-save functionality allows you to designate one platform as your "Active Account." This account‘s characters, progression, triumphs and more are then accessible on all your other linked platforms via the cloud save system.

Cross-save is available on every Destiny 2 platform:

  • Playstation 4
  • Playstation 5
  • Xbox One
  • Xbox Series X|S
  • PC (Steam)
  • Google Stadia

To set up cross save, you simply visit Bungie.net and link your platform accounts to your Bungie profile. You can then select which platform will be your Active Account.

Over 50% of daily Destiny 2 players now use cross save to play across multiple platforms. And since cross play‘s full launch in 2021, overall daily players has increased by 12% thanks to the expanded multiplayer pool.

What Carries Over with Cross Save?

When enabled, your Guardians, progression and most acquired items will be accessible on both platforms via your Active Account. This includes:

  • Characters
  • Armor, Weapons and Gear
  • Quest Progress
  • Triumphs and Collections
  • Season Pass Progression
  • Currency (Glimmer, Legendary Shards, Bright Dust)

So with my Hunter main that I play on PC, I can log into my PS5 with the same gear, progression etc. pretty seamlessly.

The main exception is content licenses. So expansions, season passes and DLC purchases are still platform-specific. If you want to access Shadowkeep campaign on both PC and PS5 for example, you‘ll have to own Shadowkeep on both platforms.

But thanks to cross save, I can play with all my PC characters and loot over on PS5 with my console friends!

Cross Saving Destiny 2 Between PC and PS5

As a PC player, why would I want to play on PS5 as well?

For me, it opens up the end-game PvE and PvP activities like raids, dungeons and Trials to a MUCH wider pool of players. I have several friends on PS5 who I can now play with thanks to cross save that I couldn‘t previously due to platform restrictions.

While I still prefer Mouse + Keyboard for most solo content, playing on my PS5 with a controller allows me to kick back on my couch and tackle lower-tier activities. Then I can hop onto my PC for serious progression raiding and PvP sessions.

Setting Up Cross Save on PS5 and PC

It only takes about 5 minutes to set up cross save between PS5 and PC! Simply follow these steps:

  1. Visit Bungie.net and link your PlayStation Network account
  2. Also link your Steam account
  3. Under "Active Account" choose the one you want to share progression from
  4. Click Approve to enable cross save!

Once enabled, your characters, Triumphs, gear etc. will be accessible on both PS5 and PC via the cloud save system. You can swap Active Accounts at any time too.

Just remember DLC and season passes don‘t transfer over. So if you want to retain full access, you‘ll need to own the relevant DLC on both platforms.

But now, you can seamlessly play with your friends regardless of platform thanks to cross save! Whether you prefer M+KB on PC or kicking back on the couch with a controller, you‘ll always have your full Destiny 2 arsenal at your fingertips.
