Yes, two people can play The Sims 4 together!

As a hardcore Sims fanatic with over 1000 hours across the franchise, I‘ve always dreamed of sharing my weird and wild in-game stories with friends in real time. And with the power of mods, that dream is finally a reality!

Can You Play Sims 4 Multiplayer?

Yes – using the incredible third-party Sims 4 Multiplayer mod, up to 12 players can inhabit the same neighborhood and collaborate on one shared lot at once. This offers a completely different experience than standard solitary Sims 4 play.

Instead of separately telling distinct stories, you and your friends build cooperative narratives, collectively guiding your Sims ensemble as they navigate careers, relationships, and hilarious disasters.

With over 130 thousand subscribers on ModTheSims, the multiplayer mod has a thriving community behind it. And that‘s no surprise given how refreshingly fun and social it makes The Sims 4!

How Does Sims 4 Multiplayer Work?

On a technical level, the mod operates on a client-server model. One player‘s game acts as the host, while others join remotely as clients.

The host sets up a room code, and clients input that code when launching the mod‘s external launcher app. After some quick synchronization, everyone loads into the same save file and can begin playing together on the same lot.

Key Things to Know About Playing Together

  • Only mods and CC installed on host game will appear – so coordinate your custom content libraries beforehand
  • Sim autonomy is disabled – players direct all Sim actions manually
  • Multiplayer only works on lots – can‘t play real-time during map/build mode
  • Voice chat is a must! – verbally coordinate to prevent chaos

With great power comes great responsibility. Playing cooperatively requires patience and coordination between players.

Personally though, I love the creative chaos! With my best friends piloting different Sims, we‘ve ended up with delightfully dysfunctional households I could never plan alone.

What About Official Sims Multiplayer?

Unfortunately the team at Maxis hasn‘t shown much interest in true multiplayer functionality over the years. Previous Sims titles have been staunchly singleplayer – much to the community‘s dismay.

However, the upcoming next-gen Project Rene edition may finally embrace co-op play thanks to its cloud streaming ambitions. We can dream!

In the meantime though, the modding community has our backs. And playing The Sims 4 multiplayer, even in early prototype form, is an absolute blast.

If you adore goofing off in Sims‘ virtual dollhouses for hours on end like me, grab some friends and sync up. The co-op hijinks will fuel your fun for hundreds more hours to come!
