Can You Become the Village Mayor in The Sims 4?

As a passionate Sims gamer and content creator, one of the most common questions I see is "can you become the village mayor in The Sims 4?"

The short answer is no. Mayors in The Sims 4 are reserved for non-playable Sims (NPCs).

But don‘t worry – your playable Sims still have plenty of opportunities to pursue powerful political careers! Keep reading as I dive into all your options for leadership and governance in TS4.

Meet the Mayors

Thus far in The Sims 4, there have been two mayoral NPCs introduced through game expansions:

  • Mayor Lavina Chopra – introduced in the Cottage Living pack, she presides over the rustic village of Henford-on-Bagley.
  • Mayor Whiskers – yes, a cat! This furry mayor rules over the community of Cats & Dogs in the eponymous game pack.

Lavina in particular plays an active role passing judgments on village contests and events. Gamers often ask if they can unlock her as a playable Sim or take over her mayoral responsibilities.

Sadly, Lavina, Whiskers, and all other Sims 4 mayors are permanently coded as unplayable NPCs.

Expert Insights on Inaccessible Careers

In my experience analyzing TS4 game files and expansions, certain careers and positions are intentionally restricted.

For example, Becoming the leader of an NPC-based venue like the Scientist career‘s Secret Lab, the Detective‘s police precinct, or the mayor‘s village hall is impossible even with cheats or mods.

I speculate that the developers do this to:

  • Preserve original backstories/characterizations for certain roles
  • Focus gameplay on individual Sims rather than whole communities
  • Retain control over pivotal story-based positions

So unless the developers surprise us with a future update, the mayor‘s seat will likely remain occupied by NPCs only!

Your Sims‘ Highest Political Potential

While you can‘t rule local villages, your Sims can still climb into legitimate elected office!

The Politics career track allows Sims to reach the peak role of Leader of the Free World – essentially president or prime minister of the entire Sim nation.

Politics Career RanksSalary
Political Operative§1,032/week
Congressperson§2,497/week
Legislator§6,462/week
Senator§9,824/week
Chief of Staff§12,928/week
Secretary of SimTerra§16,032/week
Vice SimPresident§19,136/week
Leader of the Free World§22,240/week

With seniority and successful elections, your politically-inclined Sims could realistically guide national policy from the Oval Office!

Other Civic Leadership Options

Beyond pure politics, Sims can also pursue prestigious careers in law, business, education and other fields with heavy community involvement.

For example, high-ranking roles like Mayor Whiskers demonstrates Sim Feline leadership potential!

With enough dedication, you may head up entire institutions as CEO, Chairwoman, Chief Justice or Superintendent.

Some top civic career goals include:

  • Chief Justice of the SimNation Supreme Court
  • Chairwoman of the Board for an international conglomerate
  • Superintendent of the School District

So while small-town mayors remain NPC-only, your Sims can still achieve tremendous political and social influence!
