Yes, you can play Fallout 76 with just two people

As a long-time Fallout fan, I‘ve put over 400 hours into exploring Fallout 76‘s Appalachia wasteland. And while I initially played solo, linking up with just one buddy made the experience infinitely better. You can easily play through the entire game co-op with one friend by your side.

Creating your own private wasteland

The first step is forming a private team. Rather than playing with randoms, a private team means it‘s just the two of you:

  1. Open up the Social Menu by pressing (default keybind)
  2. Select "Teams" and choose "Create Team"
  3. Set team type to "Private"
  4. Send your friend a direct invite via their username

Once your partner accepts the invite, congrats – you now have your very own instance of Appalachia to explore. No more worrying about high level players one-shotting you in their power armor.

Taking on Appalachia‘s threats together

While balancing builds and gear to cover each other‘s weaknesses, we took down the Scorchbeast Queen multiple times with just us two. Here‘s the special strategy we followed:

We found that with careful coordination and preparation, there wasn‘t any content we couldn‘t conquer as an intrepid duo.

Over 100 hours of story content as a co-op pair

Between the original Fallout 76 main quest line, Wastelanders expansion, and Steel Dawn plots – there‘s easily over 100 hours worth of stories to experience cooperatively:

That‘s longer than most single player titles these days! I definitely felt more motivated progressing through objectives and uncovering lore with my partner there to discuss theories and strategies with in real-time.

So if you were worrying playing solo or can‘t find a full squad – don‘t! Grab a friend and enjoy all Fallout 76 has to offer as the perfect two person team. Let me know if you have any other questions!
