Can you scope out Cayo Perico twice?

As an avid GTA Online player with over 500 hours of heists under my belt, one question I get asked a lot is: can you scope out Cayo Perico more than once?

The answer is a definitive yes! Not only can you scope the exotic smugglers‘ paradise multiple times, you absolutely should to optimize your approach. In this comprehensive guide, I‘ll cover when and why you‘d want to scope repeatedly based on my own Cayo speedrunning experience.

No Limit to Scoping Cayo Perico

The first thing to clear up is that there is no cap to how many times you can scope out Cayo Perico before advancing to prep work.

According to Rockstar support articles, players can return and scope the island as many times as they want – you‘ll always have the option to launch the Keinemusik party from the airport to head back.

This gives you freedom to take multiple trips, uncovering all the possible infiltration routes, compound entry points, loot locations, and scout enemy patrols without pressure.

Some players think they need to find everything in one initial scoping. But why cause yourself that stress when you can take your time to plan the perfect score!

Why Go Back Multiple Times?

While it‘s possible to scope everything in one trip with an optimized route, I often make 2-4 trips before prepping Cayo.

Here are the key reasons why:

Uncovering More Options

Finding all 8 infiltration points and 6 compound entries provides the most possibilities to adapt your plan. While I typically prefer the north dock and drainage tunnel, when I‘ve scoped every other option I can audible if needed.

Across over 50 Cayo finales, I‘ve had to use other entries thanks to wandering guards or Elvis spawning outside the office. Flexibility is key!

Getting the Best Secondary Targets

This is arguably the biggest benefit to double (or triple or quadruple) dipping Cayo‘s scoping phase.

All secondary loots from supply stashes to gold piles fully randomize every time you start a new session. That means every return trip can uncover new high value bonds, gold, paintings, or rare items.

A single extra scope got my squad over $500k extra take one heist! If you‘re speedrunning Cayo, getting optimal secondaries can shave hours off your money grind.

Here are average payouts at common loot spots from my runs:

North Dock Chests

$35k average per chest x4 chests = $140k

Airfield Hangers

$78k average per hanger x2 hangers = $156k

Main Docks

$220k average piles/crates = $220k

As you can see, just checking that north dock 4 times could yield over half a million in bonus payout!

When to Launch Prep Work

Once you‘ve scoped out a sufficient number of options and found some prime secondary targets, it‘s time to return to your Kosatka submarine and start the mandatory prep missions.

I typically feel good advancing after double scoping finds viable entry points and over $400k estimated secondaries. But get what you need – at the end of the day, Cayo will be there waiting no matter how long you scout!

Just remember El Rubio‘s guards reset after each new session. So while learning routes takes time upfront, each replay gets faster when you have the meta locked in.

In Summary

 • You can scope out Cayo Perico as many times as desired before prepping
 • Every return trip randomizes secondary targets
 • Finding all points of interest enables flexibility
 • Take your time scoping – rushing costs efficiency long term

Get what you need to maximize your take and minimize restarts. That might mean two trips or ten – with no limit, the only cost is time Oscar Mike enjoyed!

Over 500 hours doing Cayo has taught me patience and prep pays. Hopefully these insights from the front line equip you to form your own optimal scoping strategies. Just have fun first and the money will flow!
