Did Kazuya Actually Love Jun?

The relationship between Kazuya Mishima and Jun Kazama in the Tekken series has long fascinated fans. Despite having a child together, Jin Kazama, there is intense debate within the fandom if Kazuya ever truly loved Jun or was just using her for his own ends.

Their Initial Bond

When Kazuya first met Jun, she represented warmth, kindness and hope – things that were severely lacking in his life up to that point. After being betrayed and thrown into a volcano by his father Heihachi, Kazuya embraced the Devil within him and became cold and ruthless.

Jun was able to see through to Kazuya‘s humanity and connected with him on a deep level. This bond resulted in a brief period of peace and stabilization for Kazuya.

The Disappearance of Jun

After defeating Heihachi and taking control of the Mishima Zaibatsu, Jun became pregnant with Kazuya‘s son. Sensing the evil presence of Devil beginning to corrupt the child, Jun disappeared into seclusion to raise Jin alone.

Kazuya made no attempt to find Jun or express concern over her safety. He remained focused only on his quest for more power.

Kazuya‘s Descent into Darkness

In subsequent Tekken games, Kazuya‘s humanity has been almost entirely consumed by Devil. He seeks only to defeat his son Jin and grandfather Heihachi to consolidate power. With no mention of Jun or her fate.

This descent into darkness casts doubts on whether Kazuya ever truly cared for Jun, or if she was a means to an end during his initial takeover of the Mishima Zaibatsu.

The Verdict

While Jun and Kazuya clearly formed an initial bond strong enough to produce a son, Kazuya‘s later disregard for Jun‘s disappearance and wellbeing suggests he did not genuinely love her.

Within the Tekken fandom, the prevailing view is that Kazuya used Jun for her power to calm the Devil within him and provide an heir. But once she had served that purpose, any affection disappeared along with his humanity.
