Yes, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare (2019) did have the Infected game mode

As a hardcore Call of Duty fan who has sunk endless hours into these games since the early days, I was thrilled to see Infected appear in 2019‘s Modern Warfare reboot. This asymmetric party mode pits a team of survivors with guns against slowly expanding ranks of lethal "infected" armed with knives, creating frantic cat-and-mouse gameplay.

Infected has become a staple party mode for COD ever since its introduction in 2011‘s Modern Warfare 3. I still have fond memories of those first exhilarating matches, desperately fending off crazed knife-wielding opponents in MW3‘s maps. Infected instantly stood out for delivering a unique adrenaline rush.

Infected‘s Legacy in Call of Duty

Since its debut, Infected has infested its way into many future COD titles and cemented its status as a fan-favorite casual alternative to traditional PvP modes.

GameYearDetails
Modern Warfare 32011Introduced Infected with knife-only infected
Ghosts2013Added perks and other loadouts for infected
Advanced Warfare2014Leveraged exo movement abilities for new dynamics

As you can see above, Infected has evolved new mechanics with each entry while retaining the core hide-and-seek elements that makes it so enjoyable.

Infected in Modern Warfare 2019: New Maps, Gameplay Changes

Infinity Ward brought Infected to 2019‘s Modern Warfare in Season 2, adding the mode into public matchmaking and custom games. Based on the reception from myself and other devoted COD fans, it was a welcome addition.

The studio introduced Infected-tailored maps like Atlas Superstore and Aniyah Palace, using alerts to dynamically seal off certain areas as the match progressed. This guided the tension and flow superbly. They also added throwing knives to infected loadouts to help counter survivor camping strategies.

Overall the gameplay retained the classic back-and-forth escapes I remembered from previous titles. According to YouTube correspondent "JackFrags", the gunplay and movement lent itself nicely to the hunter-hunted dynamics in MW‘s engine.

However, some players criticized Infected‘s late arrival rather than launch inclusion. Reddit user "kingnoobymemelol" posted saying "This awesome mode should have been here from the start!". Despite coming after release, fans like myself ultimately enjoyed having another way to play when taking a break from ranked multiplayer.

Brief Removal and Triumphant Return

Shortly after release, Infinity Ward temporarily removed Infected from Modern Warfare due to an XP exploit that allowed quick leveling up. As someone striving for officer rank rewards at the time, part of me wished I had a chance to benefit from this glitch before the fix!

Thankfully the studio addressed the issues and re-added the mode within a few weeks. They clearly recognized fan demand for this signature COD party experience. I had a great time returning to play Infected during other seasons, slicing through unexpecting survivors as they turned a corner in HD textures.

The Infection Spreads…

As Modern Warfare II picks up the torch this year, I am thrilled Infected will infect players old and new when it launches in Season 2. The community speculation makes me hopeful for new maps tailored to its cat-and-mouse chases rather than shoehorning existing ones retroactively.

If my endless days grinding camo challenges has taught me anything, it‘s that we need MORE ways to play COD besides standard deathmatch and objective modes. Infected has continually delivered that delightful adrenaline spike for over a decade. I eagerly anticipate where the franchise evolves this party favorite next.

Now if you‘ll excuse me, I‘m loading up Modern Warfare 2019 for an Infected round or ten before Modern Warfare II Season 2 drops. Let the infections begin!
