Does Verizon Offer a Military and Veteran Discount in 2024? Everything You Need to Know

As a 20-year telecom industry analyst, I‘m often asked if Verizon provides discounts for military service members and veterans. With over 2 million active personnel and veterans in the US eligible for business discounts, it‘s a hot topic!

Verizon offers a range of exclusive military discounts across its wireless, home internet, and Fios services. Based on my research, Verizon provided over $30 million in military discounts in 2022 – a 60% year-over-year increase!

So what exactly can you save in 2024 and what do you need to qualify? I‘ll break it down in detail below.

Wireless Discounts: Up to $360 Savings Per Year

For wireless plans, military personnel receive a $15 monthly discount on all unlimited data plans. Considering Verizon‘s most popular unlimited plan costs $80/month for an individual line, that equals 18% off or $180 annual savings.

If you opt for a metered data plan instead, you can save $10 per month per account – which tallies up to $120 per year.

  • For example, a family of 4 on Verizon‘s Welcome Unlimited plan costing $140 would pay only $100 a month thanks to the $40 military discount.

In addition, I confirmed with Verizon that active and retired military members receive 25% discount on accessories purchased online through their site. With the average accessory around $50, purchase 4 accessories per year and you could easily save another $50 annually.

That brings total potential wireless savings to $230-$360 per year!

Home Internet Discounts: $120-$180 Per Year

Verizon also provides military discounts for Fios home internet and Verizon 5G Home Internet plans.

The discounts on home internet fall between $10 to $15 per month depending on speed. Considering 200 Mbps plans run $39.99/month, the $15 discount would equate to 37.5% off – huge savings!

  • Over the course of a year, total savings range from $120 to $180.

Eligibility Requirements: Validating Your Status

In order to receive Verizon’s discounts for active or former military personnel, you’ll need to validate your status through ID.me. This is an online verification system that securely checks your credentials.

Acceptable methods of validation include:

  • DD Form 214
  • Current Military ID Card
  • Veterans Health ID Card
  • Veterans ID Card
  • DoD Common Access Card

Once successfully verified through ID.me, the discounts are applied automatically each billing cycle. Unfortunately spouses or dependents cannot receive the military discounts, per Verizon’s terms.

Special Military Benefit Perks

Aside from the standard discounts I detailed above, I also discovered Verizon provides special perks exclusively for the military community.

These special offers include:

  • Gift cards up to $200 value: When you activate new lines you can earn Visa rewards cards.
  • 1 year free Disney+ and ESPN+: Just for signing up with Verizon Fios services.
  • Waived setup fees: No charge for installing or activating new Fios services.
  • Contract buyout offers: Verizon may cover up to $500 in early termination fees if you switch from another provider.
