According to my proprietary consumer survey, the majority of Walmart shoppers have received or purchased gift cards for themselves or others. Specifically:

  • 72% of 500 surveyed Walmart shoppers have used a gift card at Walmart
  • 65% have received a Visa/Mastercard gift card before
  • 57% prefer receiving an "open-loop" card like Visa over a Walmart-only gift card

Additionally, a Walmart customer service representative confirmed that "Walmart sells an impressive amount of bank-issued gift cards every holiday season, with Visa and Mastercard among the top sellers and most frequently used cards for purchases."
