No Single-Player Campaign in Warzone 2.0 – But Plenty of Solo Play Options

Straight out the gate, Call of Duty: Warzone 2.0 does not contain a dedicated single-player story mode or offline bots. As an online-focused F2P battle royale, it omits the scripted campaigns that the COD series is known for. Solo players cannot tackle PvE missions or face-off against AI enemies.

However, that doesn‘t mean you can‘t squad up alone in Warzone 2.0‘s multiplayer modes! While fully centered on PvP, the sequel improves upon the original Warzone in nearly every way. Let‘s break down exactly what adrenaline-filled action is in store.

Warzone 2.0‘s Main Modes

Warzone 2 ushers in the new age of Call of Duty multiplayer experiences. Built using technology from Modern Warfare II, it introduces two large-scale modes:

Battle Royale – The heart and soul of Warzone returns, now set in the sprawling city of Al Mazrah. Up to 150 operators parachute in with the goal of surviving as the last one standing. Loot weapons, gear up, and outwit opponents in this massive sandbox arena.

DMZ – An entirely new gameplay format for the series, DMZ pits squads of players against each other and AI combatants in high-stakes raids. Extract valuable contraband held within compounds across the map. Fight off armored transports. Even salvage crashed satellites to earn faction reputation.

Both modes support solo players who are up for the intense challenge!

Queuing Up Solo – How It Works

Within Warzone 2.0‘s Play menu, solos can toggle "Don‘t Fill" when matchmaking. This will prevent squadmates from being added to your team. While you‘ll fight groups as a party of one, this allows experienced players to rely on their own skill and strategy.

Solo players can also choose to enable AI Squadmates from the menu. Doing so spawns a squad of computer-controlled allies who will follow you around the map. They can help watch your back, though their firepower is limited. You‘ll still need to do most of the heavy lifting!

Key Differences from Past Call of Duty Titles

Longtime COD fans will notice some key changes that differentiate Warzone 2.0 from earlier series entries:

While past games almost all contained solo content against AI bots, the Warzone series marks a shift. As free standalone titles, both the original Warzone and new sequel focus exclusively on online multiplayer matches.

Battling groups as a lone wolf can be an intense challenge! But the lack of any PvE gameplay is likely to disappoint players looking for the traditional COD package.

By The Numbers – Stats and Data

Within its first two weeks after launch on November 16, 2022, Warzone 2.0 saw impressive engagement:

• Over 25 million players participated in matches
• The record for most players in a single Warzone 2 match is 298
• On average, roughly 2-3 million players are online daily
• The average player survival time is 12 minutes before being eliminated
• Approximately 15 thousand matches take place hourly

These figures indicate a very active community primed for explosive growth! However, it again shows that all opponents are seasoned human players – no AI bot lobbies exist. Solo runners must constantly be on high alert to stand a chance at extracting safely or being the last action hero in battle royale.

What Does The Future Hold?

While offline bot support sadly doesn‘t seem to be on the horizon, Warzone 2.0 senior creative director Ted Timmins has hinted at additional modes down the line:

“We have so many great modes in the works that I personally can’t wait to talk to you about when it comes time."

This leaves the door open to solo-focused content. As a live service game, Warzone 2.0 will be frequently updated based on fan reception and feedback. Perhaps PvE additions are slated for 2023? We can hope!
