The short answer is yes, your MyPLAYER builds and badge upgrades will carry over to next-gen consoles within the same family (PS4 to PS5, Xbox One to Series X|S). However, your MyCAREER story progress will reset when switching generations.

MyCAREER Transfers Builds, Not Story Progress

While it‘s great being able to transfer your high overall MyPLAYER with all badges unlocked, it‘s disappointing needing to replay the 4-8 hour MyCAREER story when upgrading to next-gen. Having a shared VC wallet helps ease the grind of re-leveling up. Over 150k VC earned on my last-gen builds gives me a head start in upgrading my player faster on next-gen.

MyTEAM Offers Full Cross-Progression

One huge positive is MyTEAM allows full cross-progression of all collectibles when transitioning console generations. Your entire card collection including tokens, MT coins, and other rewards seamlessly carry over. I‘m an avid MyTEAM collector with over 2,000 cards in 2K22, so not having to rebuild would have saved me hundreds of hours.

Sadly, your MyGM and MyLEAGUE save files do not carry over to next-gen consoles. With over 50+ hours devoted to each of my meticulously crafted MyGM universes, having no cross-gen support is really frustrating. For now, I‘m resigned to maintaining separate MyGM saves on both my PS4 and PS5 to avoid losing everything. It works, but isn‘t the ideal scenario.

Additionally, cross-platform multiplayer between Xbox and PlayStation is still not enabled in NBA 2K23. Being able to play Play Now Online or MyTEAM Unlimited against friends who own different consoles would add more fun and variety to online play. With Microsoft set to finalize its Activision acquisition soon, here‘s hoping 2K considers allowing cross-play in future installments!
