No, You Cannot Transfer VC from NBA 2K22 to NBA 2K23

I‘ve got some bad news for all my fellow NBA 2K gamers. After buying the new NBA 2K23, I couldn‘t wait to load up MyCareer and continue upgrading my 99 OVR player using the hard-earned VC I had leftover in NBA 2K22. However, I quickly realized that none of my NBA 2K22 VC transferred over to NBA 2K23.

This disappointing discovery prompted me to do some digging. And unfortunately it‘s true – you cannot transfer any VC or purchased content between NBA 2K games. This is clearly confirmed by 2K Support themselves:

"Unfortunately VC does not carry over from previous NBA 2K games. The main thing that will transfer over to future games is your MyTEAM Collection (certain cards have a limit of 3-5 years)." Source

I have to admit, not being able to transfer VC is frustrating as an avid NBA 2K gamer. I wish there was Cross-Progression for VC like there is for MyTEAM content. But 2K is running a business, and not allowing VC transfers likely incentivizes players to keep spending money on each new installment.

In this post, I‘ll break down everything you need to know about VC in NBA 2K23, the best ways to earn it quickly, and provide perspectives from my years as an NBA 2K gamer.

What is VC and Why Does it Matter?

For those new to the NBA 2K series, VC stands for "Virtual Currency". It‘s the lifeblood that fuels your MyCareer progression and cosmetic purchases.

  • You can use VC to upgrade your MyPlayer‘s attributes, overall rating, badges and more
  • VC also buys clothing, shoes, skateboards, bicycles and other style items
  • Many exclusive cosmetic items and animations are only available for VC purchase

Without enough VC, your MyPlayer will struggle on the virtual courts of NBA 2K. Additionally, customizing your player‘s look or celebration moves requires tidy VC sums.

Upgrading a 60 OVR rookie to an 85 OVR starter can cost 100-150k VC. And getting to elusive 99 OVR status takes 450-480k VC! Let‘s just say it takes a serious VC bank account to craft your dream baller.

Average VC Costs in NBA 2K23

To put the VC costs needed for NBA 2K23 success into perspective, here‘s a breakdown of prices to expect:

Upgrade or ItemVC Cost
+1 OVR Rating500 VC
90-92 OVR230k VC
93-95 OVR285k VC
96-99 OVR335k VC
Animations500 – 5,000+ VC
Backpack5,000 VC
Elite clothing item10,000+ VC
Custom skateboard12,000 VC
Special bicycle25,000 VC

As you can see, reaching that coveted 99 OVR and fully decking out your MyPlayer is no cheap task!

My Frustrations as an NBA 2K Gamer

As I mentioned earlier, learning VC doesn‘t transfer between NBA 2K games always irritates me. Along my NBA 2K journey on Xbox, I‘ve purchased well over 1 million VC across various titles:

  • NBA 2K18 – 220k VC
  • NBA 2K19 – 350k VC
  • NBA 2K20 – 450k VC
  • NBA 2K21 – 620k VC
  • NBA 2K22 – 800k VC

That VC total? Over 2.4 million! Yet year after year I have to start earning VC from scratch.

Don‘t get me wrong – I enjoy the grind of crafting up a rookie MyPlayer. But losing access to my hard-earned VC once the calendar hits October is like flushing money down the drain.

In my opinion, 2K should implement Cross-Progression that allows transferring at least a portion of VC (maybe 50%?) between game installments. As an avid fan who purchases VC to properly enjoy online play, some VC carryover would show commitment to the fanbase.

Alas, business is business – and 2K continues maximizing profits by forcing re-investment each year. But a gamer can dream!

Tips to Earn VC Quickly in NBA 2K23

Since VC won‘t transfer from older games, earning VC quickly in NBA 2K23 is crucial. Based on my years of experience, here are some top tips:

  • Grind MyCareer – Playing full seasons of MyCareer and the Playoffs nets solid VC. Upwards of 1,000+ VC per good game.
  • Avoid early attribute upgrades – Wait until your player starts regularly getting good game grades before spending big VC on attributes. No need to rush overall rating.
  • Complete 2KTV episodes – Answering trivia questions in 2KTV episodes grants 200-300 VC each. They refresh daily!
  • The Neighborhood events – Keep checking these events as many provide opportunities to win extra VC.
  • Ante-Up – While risky, betting VC against opponents in Ante-Up can yield nice payouts if you win.
  • Daily Spin for prizes – The Daily Spin often grants free VC prizes alongside the usual Boosts and Bonuses.
  • Dominate Play Now Online – String together some online versus wins against real opponents for bonus VC.

Using those tips, you can likely generate over 5,000 VC daily. That will quickly add up for upgrading your MyPlayers!

Let me know down in the comments if these VC tips work well in your early days with NBA 2K23 MyCareer. And please 2K, give us VC Cross-Progression next year! We deserve to keep some of our VC between installments.
