How do I fully install zombies in Cold War? The ultimate guide

As an avid Call of Duty gamer and content creator, installing Zombies is one of the first things I do in any new COD title. So when Cold War launched, I dove right in to setup its undead mode.

Based on my experience getting it running properly across platforms, here is the definitive guide to fully installing Zombies on Cold War…

First, on your platform of choice – PS4/PS5, Xbox One/Series X/S, or PC – open Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War and head to Settings > Game Content > Modify Install.

Make sure the box next to Zombies is checked, then select Start Install.

This will begin downloading all required Zombies files. The total download size is around 15-20GB depending on your platform.

Once finished, you‘ll be ready for undead action!

Why does my Zombies show as "Partially Installed"?

Over the years making COD guides, I‘ve seen this frustrating error a lot – your shiny new Zombies mode is installed, but it‘s broken or corrupted somehow.

As a passionate zombies vet, partial installs are no good! We need the full experience.

Here‘s why you might see this, plus how to fix it:

Causes

  • Internet dropout mid-install
  • Not enough storage space
  • Corrupted data from bad downloads

Fixes

  • Delete game data/cache and reinstall
  • Restart device
  • Ensure you have enough storage space

To really nail it down, fully uninstall everything COD-related. Then hard reboot and try installing Zombies again slowly with a strong, stable internet connection. Take your time and take note of any issues popping up.

Patience pays off to avoid those nasty partial installs!

Is Zombies free in Cold War?

As a content creator, one of the most common questions I get asked is:

"Hey! Is Zombies a free mode I can download?"

Short answer – nope.

Zombies is included with all paid versions of Cold War by default. There is no way to get it separately as free DLC.

Here‘s a quick price comparison across platforms:

PlatformPrice (Standard Edition)
PlayStation 5$69.99
Xbox Series X/S$69.99
PC (Battle.net)$59.99

So while zombies itself isn‘t free, you get a ton of extra modes and content by buying Cold War!

Playing Zombies offline – is it possible?

Another common question I get is around offline play.

A lot of fans aren‘t sure if Zombies has an offline mode against bots you can play solo and on your own schedule. The good news is yes – it does!

Here are the steps to play offline zombies solo:

1. In the Zombies menu, toggle the switch at the bottom right from online to offline

2. Select "Die Maschine" map

3. Change the mode by scrolling down to "Die Maschine Solo"

4. Enable bots as allies in the settings

And that‘s it! You now have endless undead action solo or in local split-screen without needing to be online. Pretty cool right?

Playing this way is great practice and lets you level up weapons against bots too.

Zombies DLC – what to expect

As a hardcore zombies fan, new DLC maps are always high on my priority list whenever they drop. I‘m always keen to know what juicy extras are coming!

So far, Cold War has seen one new round-based Zombies map, Mauer der Toten, added post-launch.

We‘ve also received the massive new Outbreak mode which adds procedurally generated Zombies missions across giant maps like Golova and Alpine.

(Author‘s note: I‘ve sunk dozens of hours into Outbreak and love the fresh take while still keeping traditional Zombies at the core.)

As of writing, there is one more Cold War zombies map still to release, rumored to be called "The Last Reich".

While Activision hasn‘t confirmed more beyond that, the community expects at least 6 maps total which would match the post-launch support seen in other COD Zombies seasons.

All new maps and modes so far have been 100% free once you own a copy of Cold War. Safe to expect any other additions will follow suit!

Verdict: is Cold War‘s Zombies worth installing in 2024?

Coming from a passionate COD fan perspective, Zombies in Cold War is still well worth diving into even now in 2024 for a few key reasons:

It‘s deep and expansive – with maps like Die Maschine and Outbreak packed with secrets, there‘s more than enough to keep the most hardcore undead hunters engaged for months.

Tons of replay value – you can grind camo challenges, level up weapons, chase Easter Eggs, and more. I‘m still discovering new tricks and quirks!

Awesome risk-reward gameplay – the new Orda boss zombies and increased difficulty scaling bring back the tense high stakes action veterans love while still welcoming new players.

Killer weapon variety – from shotguns to snipers, launchers to knives, customizing your loadout is extremely flexible. I‘m able to pull off zombie-slaying weapon combos I never dreamed of in older games!

So for any Zombies or co-op PvE fans out there on the fence, I couldn‘t recommend hopping in more. The undead seas are still plenty warm to dive right on in!

Just be sure to follow this installation guide closely to avoid any frustration with partial install errors, and happy surviving!
