How to Reliably Defeat 7 Opponent Trainers in Pokémon Go

As a hardcore Pokémon Go player and content creator with over 500 wins under my belt, one of the most common questions I get asked is: how do you consistently defeat other trainers?

Specifically, many players struggle with the special research task to win 7 trainer battles.

The key is having an optimized battle roster and knowing how to strategize around type matchups, attacks, and shields. Follow these tips to assemble a winning team and strategy.

Build a Versatile Battle Roster

First, make sure you have well-rounded lineup of powered up Pokémon with strong attacks unlocked.

Aim for creating diverse type coverage across your 6 battle team members. Here is an example roster that fares well in most matches:

With this well-rounded lineup, you have strong counters to popular meta picks like Dragonite, Mewtwo, Giratina, and more.

Master Type Matchups and Attack Effects

Memorize the type chart to predict battle advantages. For example, Fighting type Machamp can wipe out Normal type Snorlax and Rock type Rhyperior thanks to type advantage.

Also pay attention to attack effects – some like Thunderbolt lower speed, while others like Ancient Power buff your own Pokémon.

Use the type chart and attack glossary as references to gain an edge!

Use Cheap Charged Moves to Bait Shields

Most opponents will use up their two protect shields quickly. You can take advantage of this by throwing cheaper charged moves first to bait out their shields.

Once shields are gone, unload your deadlier charge attacks for maximum damage!

As an example, Magnezone can bait shields with the weaker Mirror Shot before overwhelming opponents with the strong Wild Charge.

Create Attack Pressure with Fast Move Damage

Don‘t overlook the damage dealt by Fast Moves!

Using Pokémon with high DPT (Damage Per Turn) quick moves like Counter or Charm lets you apply constant pressure. It racks up damage and energy gains quickly.

In many matches, fast move damage can spell the difference between narrow victory or defeat.

Switch Pokémon to Gain Favorable Matchups

Got countered with an unfavorable type matchup? Switch Pokémon!

You typically want to lead with Pokémon that have broad neutral coverage, then switch-in appropriate counters after seeing your opponent‘s pick.

Conversely, try to predict opponent switches to deny favorable type matchups.

Gaining the type advantage and effectively using your team of 6 is what separates average from elite trainers.

Maximize Rewards with the GO Battle League

Once you have a battle ready roster, take them for a spin in the GO Battle League (GBL) at any time against human opponents.

The GO Battle League is the best place to complete the “Win 7 Trainer Battles” research task quickly while earning juicy rewards like Rare Candies.

With smart play and some luck, hitting a 7-win streak is very achievable – then you can repeat the next day for a consistent stream of prizes!

So in summary, assembling the right roster, mastering type matchups, and strategically using charged attacks and switches is key to defeating 7 trainers for special research.
