How to Check Your Kills and Stats in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2

At this current time, there is no way for players to view their overall kills or full stats in Modern Warfare 2. This has been the most frequent complaint from gamers like myself since launch.

During matches, you can press "Options" or "Menu" to see your per-match kills. After matches, stats like kills are displayed on the match summary screen. However, none of this is tracked long-term.

Here is more detail on currently available options, what new stat tracking is coming in Season 2, and analysis on why players care so deeply about stats…

In-Match Options to View Kills

While in a MP or DMZ match, you can view your current per-match performance by pressing "Options" (PS) or "Menu" (XB1):

  • This will display match stats like kills, deaths, assists and K/D ratio.
  • Provides snapshot of how you are performing in a match-in-progress.
  • Stats reset after every match.

I often use this mid-match to track streaks or compete with friends in the same match to see who gets the most kills. However, with stats resetting every match, there is no way to see your overall kills adding up over days and weeks.

End-of-Match Stats

The Match Summary screen at the end of MP or DMZ games shows your final stats for that match:

  • Kills, deaths, assists, accuracy %, score and more.
  • Gives you a snapshot of your performance for THAT match only.
  • These stats are not tracked or aggregated anywhere after leaving this screen.

As someone who regularly drops 30+ kills in TDM matches, having my killer rounds disappear into the ether with no record is infuriating. I have no idea if I’m maintaining a 2+ KD or how many total kills I have since launch.

Combat Records and Leaderboards Coming in Season 2

After sustained community complaints about decimated stat tracking since launch, Activison finally confirmed that detailed Combat Records and leaderboards are coming in Season 2:

  • Will include historical stats like kills, deaths, accuracy, scores.
  • Allows viewing of your lifetime stats in Modern Warfare 2.
  • BUT historical stats only tracked starting in Season 2.

This means kills and stats since launch unfortunately will NOT be counted. The news was bittersweet and while I’m glad Combat Records are coming, I’m pissed about losing all of my historical performance.

Why Detailed Stat Tracking Matters

For passionate Call of Duty players like myself and many others in the community, long-term stat tracking adds important:

  • Progression motivation – Seeing your kills and performance improve over weeks/months provides a vital sense of advancement.
  • Bragging rights – Stats give players bragging rights among gaming friends and clans. KD ratios and kill counts are time-honored measurement standards.
  • Benchmarking – Detailed performance data allows players to benchmark themselves against prior titles and the general player population.

Here is a comparison across recent COD titles illustrating the stats tracking provided:

MW2 is clearly the outlier for removing historical stats, hence the community-wide complaints. Players feel robbed of their sense of progression and status. The coming S2 changes address issues partially, but the loss of launch window stats remains unfortunate.

I‘m crossing my fingers that Activision reconsiders counting overall stats since launch once S2 drops. In the meantime, I’ll shouting obscenities when my 50-kill matches disappear into nothingness yet again. What have your experiences been? Let me know in the comments!
