How to Get Your Hands on Arcane Velocity: An Expert‘s Guide

As a rare drop from one of Warframe‘s most notorious boss battles, getting Arcane Velocity is no easy feat. But the payoff for overcoming the challenge is 12% increased fire rate on headshot kills at max rank – insanely good for mercilessly gunning down hordes of enemies.

So how exactly does one get this elite Arcane? Here‘s my comprehensive guide as a long-time player on obtaining Arcane Velocity.

Confronting the Hydrolyst: Marathon, Not a Sprint

Defeating the gargantuan Hydrolyst Eidolon that emerges at night on the Plains of Eidolon is the most direct way to get Arcane Velocity…but certainly not the easiest.

Hydrolyst Eidolon

With powerful shields recharging rapidly, damage-resistance phases, and lethal energy beams sweeping the battlefield, the Hydrolyst can quickly overwhelm an unprepared squad.

Here are tips to successfully take on this Eidolonic showdown:

  • Specialized squad composition – At minimum, bring a Chroma to deal massive damage, Volt/Trinity for shield recharging, and Oberon/Harrow for buffing against the magneticproc bursts.

  • Maximizing shield breaking – Only Operators can damage the Hydrolyst‘s regenerating shields. Use Virtuos Shadow/Strike with Voidrig‘s Arquebex to quickly strip its defenses.

  • Destroy the synovias – Its glowing weak spots must be destroyed to make the Hydrolyst vulnerable to critical damage. Coordinate to focus fire the same synovia.

  • Sniper rifles & serrated blades – Rubico Prime, Vectis Prime, Redeemer Prime etc. can pump out the damage during vulnerable phases.

With flawless execution, it still takes 15-25 minutes to defeat the Hydrolyst before daylight approaches. So gathering multiple Arcane Velocity copies requires persistence through many grueling nights of Eidolon battles.

Farming Orphix For More Casual Access

For players not geared up to confront Eidolons, running the Orphix mission type is the more accessible method, albeit still reliant on RNG:

Orphix Mission Overview

  • Infested anomalies spawn that must be destroyed using Operator void damage
  • 3 rotation rewards, with Arcane Velocity dropping in Rotation C
  • Ideal frames: Limbo, Protea, Nova etc for protecting objectives/continuity

In a good squad, Orphix missions take ~5 minutes each. While drop chances are lower than Eidolon hunts, it‘s an easier source of various Arcanes open to players of all mastery ranks.

By The Numbers: Estimated Runs Required

According to aggregated player data, average drop rates for Arcane Velocity are:

SourceDrop ChanceAvg. Runs per 1 Copy
Hydrolyst2.52%40 runs
Orphix Rotation C0.86%116 runs

So obtaining 21 copies for a Rank 5 Arcane Velocity will on average take:

  • Hydrolyst – 840 runs (~350 hours)
  • Orphix Rot C – 2,436 runs (~205 hours)

While daunting, remember that dedicating time across multiple weeks/months mitigates the grind substantially. With smart resource boosters and squads, you‘ll amass your Arcane Arsenal eventually!

Hydrolyst vs Orphix: Which Is More Efficient?

Hydrolyst (Eidolons)

➕ Higher drop chance
➕ Nighttime standing rewards
➕ Sellable arcanes for platinum

⛔ Limited by night hours
⛔ Need specialized roles
⛔ Harsher failure punishments

Orphix

➕ Always accessible
➕ More casual gameplay
➕ Rotation rewards

⛔ Lower drop rates
⛔ Repetitive mission
⛔ No secondary rewards

So what‘s the verdict? Hydrolyst runs are preferable if you have an experienced team to quickly capitalize on each night window. Otherwise Orphix allows slowly accumulating Arcanes on your own time.
