Unlocking Your Arsenal: A Guide to MW2 Loadouts

As an experienced Call of Duty player, one of the first things I focus on in a new title is unlocking loadouts. Having that flawless, customized arsenal tailored to my playstyle makes all the difference in multiplayer performance.

So for new recruits adjusting to Modern Warfare 2, today I‘ll provide essential tips and intel on leveling up your weapons – and most importantly, unlocking those loadouts to build your perfect gun packages. Time to grind your way to some seriously badass firepower.

What Level Do You Unlock Loadouts?

Before being able to access loadouts and the Gunsmith weapon customization system, you need to hit Multiplayer Rank 4.

Based on analysis from CharlieIntel, here‘s a breakdown of how much XP it takes to unlock create-a-class:

RankXP Required
10
22,000
34,000
47,000

So roughly 7000 XP earned from match participation, kills, challenges etc. Once you see the Weapons tab appear in your menu, it‘s go time!

Leveling Up Your Guns

The real grind starts here – leveling up individual weapons to unlock attachments and build your perfect gun.

Every gun in MW2 has 70 levels to progress through. The XP requirement varies based on the weapon type:

Weapon TypeXP Per Level
Pistol125XP
SMG150XP
Assault175XP
LMG200XP

So for an M4 assault rifle, you‘d need 70 x 175 = 12,250 XP to max it out!

What Unlocks When Leveling Guns?

  • Receivers: alternate weapon models with stat changes
  • Muzzles: suppressors, flash hiders, muzzle brakes
  • Barrels: longer barrels improve damage range
  • Underbarrels: grips, bipods, launchers
  • Magazines: quicker reloads or larger ammo capacity

And lots more sights, stocks, lasers etc. Many attachments only unlock at higher weapon levels – for example the FTAC Recon barrel for the M4 needs level 16.

So if you really want to deck out a gun, be prepared for some multiplayer marathon sessions!

Fastest Way to Unlock Loadout Weapons

While any gun you equip will level up gradually, some are definitely easier and faster options when starting out.

Based on community feedback since launch, here are top picks for quickly amassing XP during the loadout grind:

  • One of the first assault rifles available
  • Reliable well-rounded stats
  • Unlocks attachments fairly quickly
  • Level 16 to unlock FTAC Recon barrel

ISO Hemlock

  • Available very early (level 4)
  • Agile SMG suits run & gun playstyle
  • Fast handling and ADS time

Crafting Loadouts for Different Playstyles

One last critical piece of the puzzle – even with a max leveled gun, your loadout isn‘t complete without factoring playstyle preferences.

Here are some example blueprints to match weapons and perks with how you like to play:

The Rusher

Focused on aggressive, high-octane playstyles who fight on the frontlines.

  • Weapon: ISO Hemlock with slight of hand & mobility attachments
  • Perks: Quick Fix, Double Time, Fast Hands
  • Tactical: Stim for quick health regeneration

The Shadow

For stealthy players who flank and catch enemies by surprise

  • Weapon: Signal 50 suppressed sniper rifle
  • Perks: Cold Blooded, Ghost, Spotter

The Anchor

  • Weapon: RPK LMG with extended mags & stability
