How to Unlock Race and Chase in GTA Online

The new "race and chase" adversarial mode introduced with the Los Santos Tuners update requires players to win 40 races against real opponents to unlock access. Completing this grants you the Race and Chase Decor Tee as a reward.

What is Race and Chase?

Race and chase is an intense head-to-head mode pitting two teams of speed demons in a battle to simultaneously out-race opponents on checkpoints while taking out rivals with weapons and cunning driving.

With room for 4 to 16 players split over two teams, the chaotic, high-speed format blends racing and deathmatch for an adrenaline-charged experience. The team with maximum points wins, scored by crossing checkpoints and takedowns over three rounds of 2-minute races.

Vehicles chosen make a big impact, as do racing lines, Kommunikation with teammates and expert weapon use while driving at insane speeds.

Unlocking Criteria: 40 Player Race Wins

The unlock condition for gaining access to race and chase mode states players must accrue 40 race wins against other real players.

• This does NOT include wins against AI bots. Only wins over actual humans in GTA Online races count.

• There is no time limit – take as long as needed to build up wins.

Compare this to other GTA Online unlocks like trade prices for Tuner vehicles (reputation level 30-35 in LS Car Meet) or Chrome vehicle paint (100 feat points).

#1 Specialized Racing Vehicle

• Use a tuned sports or super car adjusted for optimal traction and acceleration to regularly grab wins. The Annis Remus, Dinka Jester RR or Bravado Banshee are great options.

#2 Find a Racing Crew

• Assemble a trusted, skilled crew of 4-8 racers as a best chance to win instead of random public races. Coordinate to trade wins and complete objectives.

#3 Reset If Near Loss

• If a loss seems imminent, reset the game to retry and preserve your win tally. Protect that hard-earned progress!

#4 Divert and Disrupt Racers

• In public races, force trailing opponents to crash or divert from ideal routes. A bit of cunning disruption separates the ace drivers!

Other Modes Unlocked Through LS Car Meet

Gaining reputation XP levels in the LS Car Meet grants access to other street racing competition modes:

Pursuit Series (Unlocked at Level 5)

Cops pursue racers in intense Interceptor battles across 6 tracks. Play as LSPD or racers using cars allowed in the Tuner class like the Calico GTF, Jester RR and more.

• Features checkpoints with damage recovery power-ups for racers.
• Cops use PIT maneuvers, roadblocks and ramming takedowns to wreck racers before finish line.

Street Race Series (Unlocked at Level 35)

Traditional sprints from A to B across Los Santos and Blaine County in tuned cars. First to cross the finish line wins!

• Approximately 10+ point-to-point tracks on streets.
• Traffic and clever shortcuts impact results as much as vehicle performance!
• Pays out $8750 to winner; series points to top 8 positions.
