But even I was shocked to learn just how fast a properly tuned 13 horsepower (HP) go-kart can go. We‘re talking 0 to 100 kilometers per hour in no time flat!

Blazing Speeds Beyond Most Vehicles

Let‘s put 100 km/h (62 mph) into perspective. The average car hits about 112 km/h. So a 13HP kart is closing in on highway speeds!

As you can see, these karts leave recreational models far behind. And with some tuning, they can come close to an economy car‘s highway speeds!

So how do they hit such extreme velocities? It comes down to significant engine power and specialized components:

This feat was accomplished by daredevil duo Luca Corberi and Paolo Maria Soli. They removed the motor from their kart and took it to the top of a seaside hill. Then with a firm shove, the pair screamed downhill, pasting 160 km/h before needing to brake! They even captured helmet cam footage showcasing every hair-raising moment.

So while 13HP go-karts are shockingly swift, passionate racers continue finding ways to push limits even farther! It makes me wonder…just how fast can a person reasonably go on 4 tiny wheels? I‘m tempted to take my own gravity powered kart to those coastal hills and find out!

But for now, I‘m still breathless at the claim that properly built 13HP go-karts can eclipse racecar-like 100 km/h speeds. Trust me, getting flung around by that kind of power and torque is a high octane rush I won‘t soon forget!
