How Long Should You Block Off to Complete a Destiny 2 Dungeon?

As hardened Destiny veterans, we know that conquering a dungeon demands coordination, skill, and perhaps above all – patience. These thrilling 3-player activities pack unique bosses, challenging mechanics, and coveted exotic drops into compact 1-2 hour packages.

But exactly how long should you expect to be grinding through their dark corridors for that sweet, sweet loot? Let‘s break it down by each dungeon‘s average clear time.

Shattered Throne (Forsaken)

  • Release Date: 01 October 2018
  • Encounters: 4
  • Average Clear Time:
    • Normal – 57 minutes
    • Solo – 2 hours 2 minutes
    • Master – 2 hours 30 minutes (estimated)

As the first Destiny 2 dungeon, Shattered Throne remains relatively straightforward compared to recent releases. Teams typically blaze through the four encounters in under an hour. Solo players can double that for a flawless run.

Dul Incaru and her shadow knights still catch teams off guard. Come prepared with ranged DPS for the final fight.

Pit of Heresy (Shadowkeep)

  • Release Date: 17 December 2019
  • Encounters: 5
  • Average Clear Time:
    • Normal – 1 hour 6 minutes
    • Solo – 2 hours 21 minutes
    • Master – 2 hours 38 minutes

Navigating the twisting depths of the Pit will test even veteran fireteams with five unique encounters. The Chamber of Suffering crossing remains a pain point, where a single misstep means a plunge into the abyss below!

Make sure to bring your best add clear supers for the Necropolis. Focus fire on Zulmak‘s weak spots to avoid drawn out damage phases.

Prophecy (Season of Arrivals)

  • Release Date: 09 June 2020
  • Encounters: 5
  • Average Clear Time:
    • Normal – 1 hour 12 minutes
    • Solo – 2 hours 30 minutes
    • Master – 3 hours 9 minutes (estimated)

As a free dungeon for all Guardians, Prophecy opened up the thrill of the end-game challenge to New Lights. Just don‘t let the heavenly aesthetics distract you from obstacles like the unnerving shadow thrall or the deadly force shields in Rainbow Road.

Veterans swear by Riskrunner and Trinity Ghoul for shredding those scary mote knights. What‘s your loadout for a 30 minute sprint?

Grasp of Avarice (30th Anniversary Pack)

  • Release Date: 07 December 2021
  • Encounters: 3
  • Average Clear Time:
    • Normal – 57 minutes
    • Solo – 1 hour 31 minutes
    • Master – 2 hours 12 minutes

Part homage and part lethal gauntlet, Grasp of Avarice pits you against hordes of Fallen before facing off with the Walking Bank himself. Make no mistake, dying to his barrage of flaming caches remains a humiliation we have all faced!

With only three encounters, most teams can breeze through in under an hour. Just watch out for Overloaded Captains and cheeky invisible Vandals along the way.

Duality (Season of the Haunted)

  • Release Date: 24 May 2022
  • Encounters: 4
  • Average Clear Time:
    • Normal – 1 hour 31 minutes
    • Solo – 3 hours 2 minutes
    • Master – 3 hours 3 minutes (estimated)

As the most recent dungeon, Duality ushers a new era of mechanical complexity from start to finish. Its four encounters will leave even veterans with battle-tested reflexes dismayed and dizzy.

We highly recommend getting a few normal clears under your belt before attempting solo flawless runs. Have your fireteam call out Caiatl‘s symbol sequences to avoid an early team wipe!

While dungeons represent some of Destiny‘s finest end-game challenges, they also demand anywhere from 1-6+ hours of uninterrupted focus depending on skill level.

As you gather your fireteam and dive in, make sure to set aside enough time to thoroughly plumb their secrets – and spite their sadistic architects! We‘ll see you starside, loot in hand.
