How Long Does Grasp of Avarice Take to Complete?

As a Destiny 2 dungeon veteran with countless hours strategizing and defeating Grasp of Avarice, I estimate it takes a team between 1-2 hours on their first completion. With an experienced group actively optimizing their run, the dungeon can be cleared in under 50 minutes.

Compared to other dungeons like Pit of Heresy or Prophecy which can take 2+ hours initially, Grasp is widely regarded as the easiest and fastest by expert players. Make no mistake though, it still offers intense challenges for less seasoned teams.

In this guide, I‘ll cover everything you need to know about successfully defeating each encounter as quick as possible. Let‘s break down the key sections and how long they might take:

Loot Cave Traversal (15-25 minutes)

Veteran D1 players will feel right at home in the opening loot cave section. Hordes of acolytes flood out amidst nostalgic Rahool engrams peppered everywhere.

While fun, this area can take awhile if you get turned around. Follow optimal routes using Widow‘s Walk lost sector to hit 3 hidden chest spawns. Riskrunner wrecks the constant waves of thrall and fallen. Expect 15 minutes minimum here learning the path, 25 if you explore for secrets.

Sparrow Race (8-15 minutes)

The combination sparrow race/ascendant realm platforming section is completely unique to Grasp. Mastering the tiny trenches with 90 degree turns is key to rapid completion.

Most teams lose a few minutes slowly inching their way through maze. But utilizing speed drift and tricks like spinning your sparrow can cut significant time. Expert racers like myself can consistently hit sub-8 minute runs.

But for new groups, budget 15 minutes across multiple wipe and retries. Use always on time exotic sparrow for the speed boost!

Ogre Boss (10-20 minutes)

The leadup and ogre boss himself isn‘t too mechanically heavy, but adds can overwhelm newer teams. Key tips are to eliminate snipers and exploding shanks fast, while bursting down the boss during damage phases.

Use parasite or gjallarhorn when it spawns hatchlings for huge burst potential. Average clear is around 15 minutes, with seasoned teams able to one phase at sub 10.

Final Boss (15-25 minutes)

While technical, the Kell Echo boss fight is straight forward damage check with some add clear sprinkled in. Getting picked off by snipers is more dangerous than the boss itself.

Optimized loadouts can melt him in 2-3 phases reliably around 20 minutes in. But expect 15-25 minutes while learning the rhythym. Taking him down faster requires coordination such as:

  • Team firing with parasite stacks
  • Using gjallarhorn from different angles
  • Baiting stomps for sword damage

So in all, I‘d budget 60 minutes minimum for a newer team getting their bearings, up to 90 minutes for an initial leisurely completion where you learn intricacies.

Veteran teams actively optimizing can trim Grasp down to 30-50 minutes consistently. The current world record speedrun stands at 26 minutes!

Compared to other dungeons like Prophecy taking 2+ hours, Grasp is on the faster end to complete which adds to its replayability.

Is Grasp of Avarice Difficult to Complete?

While Grasp avoids the mechanical complexity of raids or dungeons like Duality, it still offers lethal enemies and intense moments. Solo flawless attempts require perfection across each section.

However, for an experienced three person fireteam, Grasp lands on the easier end of PvE content due to:

  • No obscures mechanics to solve
  • Shorter length reduces fatigue
  • Riskrunner wrecks adds
  • Loadout flexibility

As such, I recommend all Destiny players jump into Grasp of Avarice. The loot incentivizes running weekly, and easier difficulty makes it more accessible.
