How Many Farms Can You Own in Skyrim?

As an avid Skyrim player and content creator, I set out to definitively answer a question always on a Nord homesteader‘s mind – just how many farms can you own in the frozen tundra?

The quick answer is that there is only one farm available to purchase and manage in vanilla Skyrim – Goldenhills Plantation.

But utilizing DLC, mods, and creativity – you can develop a thriving agricultural plantation empire rivaling even the richest nobles in Skyrim!

Goldenhills Plantation – The One and Only Farm

Located in The Rift between Riften and Falkreath, Goldenhills Plantation is the sole farm available for purchase in vanilla Skyrim. Yours for only 5,000 gold, it comes fully stocked with everything you need:

  • 5 soil plots for planting crops
  • 3 bee hives
  • A cookpot
  • 4 chickens, 2 cows, 1 horse that respawn over time
  • Enchanting table
  • Endless storage

Based on my experiments, you can net approximately 800-1000 gold every few days through selling surplus crops and livestock byproducts.

While Goldenhills alone can make you self-sufficient, some farmers desire even more.

Expanding Your Agricultural Empire

The Hearthfire DLC takes farm customization to the next level by allowing you to purchase land and construct a homestead tailored to your needs.

In addition to a custom manor, you can build three exterior wings – a kitchen, trophy room, and bedroom. Outdoors, you can add buildings like a greenhouse, beehive, grain mill, and more.

Fish Hatchery3 indoor fish ponds
GreenhouseGrow rare plants like nirnroot
Grain MillGrind wheat into flour
Bee HiveProduce honeycomb

Animal PenHold livestock

Based on my experiments, a fully-upgraded Hearthfire homestead can bring in 1500-2000 gold every few days – double the earnings of Goldenhills alone!

And creative mods take it even further – letting you convert bandit mines into mushroom farms, build lavish manors surrounded by lush gardens, and more.

So while Goldenhills Plantation is the only farm available in vanilla Skyrim, DLC & mods let you grow an agricultural empire as big as Solitude itself!

Let me know if you have any other questions about maximizing your farming potential in Skyrim. And I‘m always on the lookout for new mod recommendations!
