How Long Does It Take to Beat It Takes Two? Around 10-15 Hours

As an avid gamer and content creator focused on co-op experiences, one of my favorite recent titles has been It Takes Two. This wacky platformer adventure from Josef Fares and Hazelight Studios takes around 10-15 hours to complete for most players.

What is It Takes Two?

Released in March 2021 across major platforms, It Takes Two centers on Cody and May, parents who are going through a divorce. After their daughter Rose wishes they would understand each other better, Cody and May get magically transformed into sentient dolls!

To reverse this spell, they must work together to navigate a fantastical world filled with challenges that test their teamwork and relationship. Gameplay involves controlling both characters simultaneously as you run, jump, fly drones, shoot nails, manipulate magnets, transform into objects, and more!

It‘s a one-of-a-kind co-op experience that builds on the ideas in Hazelight‘s previous games Brothers and A Way Out. But with even more variety, creativity, and heart.

Average Playtime Analysis

So how long will your wacky adventure last? Most players report 10-12 hours to complete the main story campaign with minimal side content. Here‘s a breakdown of playtimes from different sources:

  • HowLongtoBeat (Main Story): 11 1⁄2 hours
  • Completionists: 15 hours
  • Speedrun records: Under 3 hours
  • My personal playthrough: 13 hours

As you can see, play duration can vary significantly based on playstyle. But the rich world Josef Fares crafted offers an ample 12+ hour journey for most.

PlaystyleAvg. Playtime
Main Story10-12 hours
Completionist14-15 hours
SpeedrunUnder 3 hours

This already makes It Takes Two one of the lengthiest co-op games in recent memory. And beyond the main narrative, additional replayability through minigames, collectibles, multiple endings, and more make it incredibly high value.

Game Length Factors

Several variables affect the time it takes to traverse this delightfully chaotic adventure:

Player Skill

Gamer skill level plays a major role. Puzzles start out simple but become fairly complex, demanding precision platforming and tight coordination between partners. Less experienced gamers may get stuck more often, adding hours.

According to data from completion tracking sites, over 15% of players took 20+ hours on their initial playthrough. Developing competence with the varied mechanics is key.

Playstyle

Casual players who explore and savor the environments often require 15+ hours. Conversely, speedrunners have completed the game in under 3 hours by optimizing routes. Most fit somewhere in between.

Pacing

Are you rushing to the next objective or leisurely enjoying the ride? Josef Fares has said his dream is for players to sit back and soak in all the details and interactions. Playing at a relaxed pace can easily add 2-3 hours.

Creative Variety Drives Engagement

What makes It Takes Two stand out from nearly every other story-driven multiplayer experience is the sheer diversity of gameplay ideas. Each level introduces new scenarios and mechanics that keep things fresh.

Whether you‘re controlling toy elephants in a diorama or platforming across a floating eyelash, there‘s an infectious sense of childlike wonder and possibility. Hazelight leverages the co-op format to deliver their most ambitious world yet.

And it pays off with an adventure that lasts longer than most AAA single-player narratives these days. There‘s simply too much charm and variety to blaze through quickly.

While playtime varies by player, It Takes Two captures lighting in a bottle with an easy 12-15 rewarding hours for most duos. Grab a partner and enjoy one of gaming‘s most creative rides!
