How Many Houses Does It Take To Complete Happy Home Paradise?

You‘ll need to design 30 vacation homes to finish the Happy Home Paradise storyline and unlock all abilities like remodeling villager houses back on your island.

As an avid Animal Crossing player and content creator, I couldn‘t wait to sink my teeth into the Paradise Planning gameplay after the DLC dropped in 2021. Over a year later in 2024, I still find so much creative joy in decking out fun theme homes for new clients.

In this article, I‘ll share everything you need to know about progressing through the vacation home design career track and completing major milestones. Let‘s dive in!

Details on the 6 and 30 Home Completion Goals

The Happy Home Paradise DLC introduces new features in phases as you help more potential homeowners design their island getaway place. Here are details on what unlocks at 6 and 30:

6 Vacation Homes

  • Unlocks the ability to build a school where you can teach villagers DIYs
  • Additional facility types like restaurant, hospital, and cafe also unlock over time

30 Vacation Homes

  • Completes the main Happy Home Paradise storyline
  • Credits roll after a special concert with K.K. Slider
  • Allows you to remodel homes for island villagers
  • Unlocks all Happy Home Academy designer techniques
  • Grants ability to use any catalogued furniture for vacation homes

Once you hit the 30 home milestone, you’ll have the full set of designer powers and renovations available for both vacation properties and villager houses.

But the creativity doesn’t have to stop there…

You Can Design Hundreds More Vacation Homes If You Wish

A common question I see is: "Is there a limit to how many I can design?"

The answer is no! Once the story finishes, there‘s no cap on the number of island getaways you can create. With over 400 potential villagers in the game, you could make a tropical cabana for all of them if you have the patience!

| Villagers Available | 400+ |
| Design Spots on Archipelago | 49 |
| Homes Needed to Complete Story | 30 |

According to the stats above from reputable Animal Crossing fan sites, you could design 400+ homes for all the individual villagers before running out of new clients. And with 49 available home plots scattered across the various Paradise Planning islands, there‘s room to get very creative in placing vacation properties!

My recommendation if you want to extend playtime is to invite some favorite villagers via amiibo or rare character cards. Seeing cutscenes of them explore custom homes tailored to their personality and interests is super rewarding!

Below I‘ll provide an overview of other facilities you can deck out across the archipelago once unlocked.

Unlocking and Designing Facilities

In addition to luxury vacation cottages, you can also customize public facilities as you progress through Paradise Planning:

Restaurant

  • Features a kitchen, dining room, and outdoor eating patio
  • Lets you place cooking items and food furniture
  • Fun for urban or modern kitchen builds

Hospital

  • Includes patient ward, examination room, and doctor‘s office
  • Place medical/science items like microscopes
  • Go for a clean, high-tech hospital or cute pediatric clinic

School

  • Has classroom, gym, and teacher‘s lounge
  • Decorates with school supplies, lockers, activities items
  • Make primary colors or sleek university aesthetics

Cafe

  • Mixes upbrewery, patisserie kitchen, and seating
  • Showcases coffee, bakery, and drink-making furniture
  • Lean modern or cozy coffee house feels

Once unlocked, facilities provide a nice change of pace from residential design with new layouts, items, and themes to inspire you. They also introduce fun roleplaying elements – you‘re the school teacher or head baker in charge of the venue!

I particularly enjoy remodeling the restaurant and cafe buildings in bright colors with lots of plants and windows. Though I always have to be careful not to eat the virtual food while staging kitchens! 😋

Tips and Creative Inspiration

Hopefully the details above give you a better picture of key Paradise Planning milestones plus plenty of post-storyline activities. Here are some of my top tips for making the most of the vacation home designer role:

Use Favorite Villagers for Premium Getaways

Seek out popular or rare villagers via amiibo invite to create special retreats just for them as a VIP client. I designed an elegant jewelry shop bungalow for Audie to match her style.

Coordinate Neighboring Homes

Group 2-3 homes on a shared plot with matching exterior theming. I built a camping cluster with wooden cabins for outdoor-loving clients. Makes the neighborhood feel cohesive.

Redesign Facilities Regularly

Change up the restaurant, school, etc. every month or season. I shift the cafe from bright spring pastels to moody vampire lair for Halloween!

Remodel Islander Houses

Don‘t forget you can apply your designing expertise back on your own island once unlocked! Perfect for gift-giving events.

Take Design Photos

The in-game camera tool is great for capturing exterior home shots or nicely staged interior decoration moments as portfolio pieces or inspiration for future builds.

Treasure Hunt with Gyroids

After it rains, colorful Gyroids pop up around the DLC islands. Collect and use them as cute decorative elements in homes!

Hopefully these tips inspire you to keep the creativity flowing even after completing all Paradise Planning milestones.
