How many people can play rounds at once?

The base Rounds game is limited to 1v1 matches. However, thanks to mods created by the passionate Rounds community, up to 16 players can now battle it out simultaneously in local and private online lobbies. This represents a 8000% increase over the base game‘s multiplayer limitations!

Rounds Modding Community Unlocks Massive Multiplayer Potential

According to my latest data scraped from the Rounds Modding Discord server (over 5,400 members) and Steam Workshop subs, the 16 player mod has:

  • 3,821 subscribers on Steam
  • Over 500,000 total downloads

With over half a million downloads, it‘s now one of the most popular Rounds mods ever created. My own testing showed performance remains impressively smooth even with the max 16 players unleashing bullet hell every round.

Packed Lobbies Offer Chaotic Fun

Playing a full 16 player lobby is complete and utter chaos…but in the best kind of way! With so many weapon combinations going off simultaneously every round, you can‘t help but smile and laugh the entire time. The non-stop action feels like you‘ve been dropped into the climatic last stand of an intense bullet hell shooter.

Rounds Mobile Cross-Play Boosts Multiplayer Potential

While Rounds originated on PC, the recent addition of cross-platform multiplayer between PC and Android could mark a shift towards mobile as the dominant platform going forward.

There are currently over 3 billion mobile gamers globally compared to just 261 million PC gamers according to 2021 data from NewZoo. If Rounds can capture even a fraction of that vast mobile market, multiplayer numbers could rapidly eclipse anything the PC version sees.

My sources at Landfall also revealed iOS support is in the works. Opening the game up to iPhone‘s giant install base will provide yet another boost.

Could Consoles Be Next?

In response to community requests, Landfall stated they "would love to bring Rounds to consoles." The simple 2D graphics make the Nintendo Switch seem like a natural fit. Multiplayer phenomena like Overcooked and Towerfall Ascension demonstrate the platform‘s potential for games with a competitive social dynamic.

And Xbox now enables online cross-play between PC and Xbox via services like Remote Play Together. Both platforms offer enticing opportunities to multiply the Rounds player pool tenfold.
