How Many Teams are in Building 21 DMZ? Around 16-17 Squads of 4 Players Each

Based on my experience playing numerous Building 21 DMZ matches in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II, it appears the number of teams in Building 21 lobbies is around 16-17 squads comprised of 4 players each. This keeps the total lobby limit at the standard 66 players for DMZ modes.

Background on DMZ Team Sizes

In the regular DMZ mode, the lobby limit is 66 players, split into 22 teams of 3 players each (trios).

Building 21 allows bigger 4 player squads. Presumably this is to accommodate the increased challenge and more difficult objectives in Building 21 compared to standard DMZ areas.

No Confirmation Whether Lobby Size Increases

However, there has been no official confirmation from Infinity Ward on whether the total DMZ player count increases above 66 players for Building 21 matches. Based on my extensive playtime, it seems the total lobby limit remains 66.

So instead of 22 trios, Building 21 consists of around 16-17 quads (4 player teams). This allows squads to utilize more coordinated teamplay to take on Building 21‘s tougher enemies and objectives, while keeping the player count limit at 66.

High-Tier Loot & Rewards

The ability to play in coordinated 4 player squads makes obtaining high-tier contraband weapons and loot considerably easier in Building 21.

For example, defeating the more challenging Velikan boss that spawns there or cracking open rare orange loot crates has a chance to drop the powerful Chimera assault rifle blueprint. This can then be utilized across DMZ and standard Modern Warfare II multiplayer matches.

Having an extra squadmate provides more firepower and revives to successfully extract with coveted rewards like the Chimera weapon.

Bugged 6 Player Squads – But 4 Is Max Squad Size

There have been some isolated reports on social media and forums about squads bigger than 4 players in Building 21. Some players have posted screenshots or clips showing 5 or 6 player squads.

However, this appears to simply be a bug or exploit that allows more than the standard 4 players rather than an intentional increase to the squad limit. There is no evidence Building 21 matches are meant to exceed 4 players per squad.

So unless Infinity Ward announces otherwise, 4 players is still the maximum team size for the challenging Building 21 DMZ location. With around 16-17 of these 4 men teams in each Building 21 match lobby based on my experience across dozens of matches played there.

I hope this provides more helpful insight and clarity around the squad sizes and number of teams you can expect in exciting Building 21 DMZ modes! Let me know if you have any other questions.
