How Much is $100,000 a Year Per Hour?

As a passionate gamer and creator myself, I was curious how a $100,000 annual salary translates to an hourly rate. For context, we can look at how much top streamers, esports players and gaming content creators earn per hour:

$100,000 per year works out to $48.08 per hour assuming a full-time 40 hour work week and no vacation time.

But for savvy gamers building an audience, you can make a lot more than $48 an hour:

Twitch Streaming Money Per Hour

According to StreamElements, top Twitch partners can make $50k-60k per month from subscriptions, advertisements, sponsorships and more. Of course it takes years to build that kind of viewership.

But if we take a top streamer earning $720k per year, their effective hourly rate is $346.15! That assumes streaming 8 hours per day, 5 days a week.

The table below shows some examples:

Twitch StreamerAnnual SalaryHourly Rate
Popular Partner$720,000$346.15
Mid-Tier Streamer$250,000$120.19
Small Stream Team$60,000$28.85

As you can see, the top content creators on Twitch make incomes that massively outpace a $100k salaried job. But it requires long hours and building an audience over many years.

According to data from Statista, over 7 million people stream on Twitch each month but only around 27k make enough to be considered a Twitch partner. So earning big money is no easy feat!

Esports Player Salaries Per Hour

Esports athletes can also achieve massively high hourly rates at the top levels of competitive gaming. Multi-million dollar prize pools means salaries for elite pro players are rising:

As an example, League of Legends superstar Doublelift reportedly earns around $300k per year from Team Liquid. For a pro player that scaffolds to an $144.23 hourly rate.

However, that calculation assumes playing full-time hours with no breaks. In reality, pro player contracts dictate much fewer "on-the-clock" hours for playing and practicing.

Here‘s a table showing more examples:

Pro GamerAnnual SalaryHourly Rate
Doublelift (LoL)$300,000$144.23
KennyS (CS:GO)$400,000$192.31
Dendi (Dota 2)$200,000$96.15

In summary, while a $100k salary may be decent for an office job, top streamers and pro gamers can achieve WAY higher earning rates per hour. But with massive fame comes big sacrifices around personal time.

Only a tiny fraction of gamers can realistically earn over $100 an hour. But for those talented few at the very top levels, gaming and content creation offers life-changing incomes.
