How much VC does the $100 version of NBA 2K23 come with?

As a passionate NBA 2K gamer and content creator, I get asked often – just how much Virtual Currency (VC) does the $100 version come with? And is it worth it?

Well, let‘s dive right in and break it down.

The $100 Michael Jordan Edition Comes with 100,000 VC

Costing $99.99 on any platform, physical or digital, 2K hooks up buyers of the Michael Jordan Edition with a sweet 100,000 VC starter pack.

To put that into perspective, playing games casually in MyCareer nets you around 1,000 VC per game.

So they‘re blessing you instantly with about 100 games worth of grinding! Not bad.

According to most players, it would take over 60+ hours to earn 100K organically in the game modes. So this instant influx allows you to fast track building your dream player.

Let‘s take a look at everything the $100 Michael Jordan Edition includes:

As you can see, the main perk is that mass of pre-loaded VC!

Just How Much is 100,000 VC Actually Worth?

If you were to straight up buy 100K VC without the game, it would cost $25 USD.

When bought at full price, 100,000 VC gets you:

  • 200K VC pack – $49.99
  • Two 45K VC packs – $19.98 ea, $39.96 total
  • One 35K VC pack – $9.99
  • Total: $99.94 worth of VC

So you‘re basically getting the 100K VC free with your purchase, a $25 value. Nice!

In the context of building your MyPlayer, we‘ll dive into how far that VC will actually get you, optimal ways to invest it, and if you‘ll need more on the road to 99 OVR.

How Much Does it Cost to Upgrade MyPlayer to 99 OVR?

Let‘s start from the bottom and work our way up.

Upgrading your 60 OVR rookie to 85 OVR generally costs around 100-150K VC. This gets all key attributes into the 70s and unlocks some solid animation packages.

From 85-90 OVR you‘re looking at about another 80-100K VC spent wisely.

Then, according to popular 2K YouTuber Brutalsim, the climb from 90 OVR up to the coveted 99 OVR will run you about another 270-280K VC.

All said, getting your player to 99 OVR costs approximately 450-480K VC.

So the 100K from the Michael Jordan edition gives you a healthy head start! But you‘ll need to earn, play, and potentially buy more VC to max out completely.

Let‘s visualize this:

MyPLAYER TierApprox. VC Cost
60-85 OVR100-150K VC
85-90 OVR80-100K VC
90-99 OVR270-280K VC

Now, once you have a better understanding of the VC requirements, let‘s go over ways to invest that 100K efficiently.

How to Strategically Invest Your 100,000 VC

When armed with 100K VC right off the bat, many players make crucial mistakes by:

  • Immediately upgrading overall too high before badges
  • Unlocking flashy dunk packages they can‘t equip yet
  • Buying swags clothes before attributes

Don‘t fall into this trap! Follow this blueprint instead for best results:

Step 1: Upgrade Key Attritubes to Unlock Animations

Focus first on upgrading your MyPlayer‘s core attributes like Speed, Acceleration, Strength, Vertical etc just enough to equip packages you have your eye on.

For example, if you want contact dunks, get your Dunk rating up to where requirements are met. This should get most key ratings into the 70s.

Step 2: Max Out Your Top 4-5 Badges First

Badges often trump overall rating early on. Pick the 4-5 badges that best fit your position and play style and max them out completely. This can get expensive, so that 100K VC helps a ton.

As an example, for my 2-way slashing guard I focused first on maxing out Giant Slayer, Acrobat, Limitless Takeoff, and Posterizer.

Step 3: Strategically Boost Overall Rating to 75-80 OVR

With your key badges now gold or HOF, boost up your overall into the 75-85 range by upgrading attributes more evenly. This will steadily unlock casually animation packages.

I don‘t recommend draining 100K VC all at once to hit, say, 85 OVR out of impatience. Progress patiently and strategically here.

Step 4: Mix In Some Signature Animations

With 100K VC you can afford to unlock some coveted signature packages earlier than usual.

As your player starts to take shape, sprinkling in some signature dunks, jumpers etc adds style and potency. And having a 100K VC allows this flexibility most early on grinders won‘t have.

Just be sure to save some VC in reserve!

Step 5: Consider Some Strategic Clothing Purchases

Once your player and key badges are in a good spot, no harm flexing some fresh kicks or hoodies!

Just don‘t go overboard too early. Make sure enough VC remains to keep progressing your player towards 90+ OVR. Drip is important, but maxing out matters more.

Follow these tips and your 100K VC will go much further than the average player early on.

Next let‘s examine some of the fastest ways to keep earning VC to ultimately hit 99 OVR.

Fastest Ways to Keep Earning VC in NBA 2K23

Once your starter 100K VC runs dry, you‘ll need to grind to earn more VC organically through playing. Or open your wallet again!

Here are the most efficient methods for earning VC quickly I‘ve found and used to reach 99 OVR the past few years:

1. Play MyCareer Games on Hall of Fame

Hall of Fame difficulty nets you VC multipliers. And it‘s reasonably beatable once your player and badges improve. Expect to earn 1,200 – 1,500 VC per full MyCareer game.

2. Sim Entire Games Until 4th Quarter

You can simulate most of the game and still earn all the VC rewards! I sim everything until my team falls behind, usually the 4th. Then play the final minutes for epic comeback wins and the full VC payout.

3. Complete The Neighborhood Weekly Challenges

The daily and weekly Neighborhood challenges offer nice payouts for largely trivial objectives involving mini-games and scrimmages. Just playing a little patience will yield several thousand VC per week.

4. Grind MyTeam Challenges and Online Play

MyTeam can be rewarding once your team overall improves. The Spotlight Challenges, Limited Events, Triple Threat Online and Unlimited all offer solid ways to stack VC rewards alongside player packs.

Mix and match the above approaches for maximum earnings until you craft your 99 OVR demigod.

This should give you a much sharper sense of how far 100K VC gets you, the fastest ways to earn more, and smart tips invest it most strategically!

Let me know if this helps explain whether the Michael Jordan Edition‘s VC bonus value proves worth it in your eyes. I‘m happy to offer any other NBA 2K guidance as well!
