How much XP does corrupted ore give in RuneScape?
Corrupted ore gives 160 Smithing experience when smelted, or 192 Smithing experience when smelted in Prifddinas‘ Trahaearn district while the Voice of Seren is active.
As an experienced RuneScape player and guide writer, I‘ve found corrupted ore to enable some of the most rewarding Smithing training methods in the game. In this article, I‘ll cover everything you need to know about smelting corrupted ore for efficient XP gains.
Corrupted Ore Overview
Corrupted ore originates from Seren stones, crystalized rocks left behind in Prifddinas that can be mined at level 89 Mining. This elf city ore has a rare chance to give corrupted ore when mined, in addition to crystal shards.
As one of the only ore types requiring level 89 Smithing to smelt, corrupted ore is noteworthy for giving moderately high base Smithing XP relative to its low intensity mining. Smelting this ore is also incredibly cheap and has no level requirements beyond 89 Smithing.
Some key notes on corrupted ore:
- Requires level 89 Mining to obtain from Seren stones
- Gives a chance for Shattered Heart bonus XP based on Mining level
- Has a chance to give the Smithing pet when smelting
- No coal is required when smelting corrupted ore
This primal, fiery ore carries remnants of Seren‘s blessing, making it highly sought after by high level smiths.
Efficiency & Training Methods
Here are some efficient ways to train Smithing with corrupted ore:

As this table shows, pure smelting of corrupted ore can award over 200,000 Smithing XP per hour. Taking advantage of urn enhancers and Voice of Seren pushes this even higher.
Mining Seren Stones
The most relaxed, afk approach is to simply mine Seren stones for corrupted ore and bank the ore. This averages around 125,000 Mining XP and 200,000-300,000 Smithing XP per hour based on your corrupted ore luck.
I often combine this method with activities like watching videos or chatting in my clan – it‘s very low intensity. Use of perfect juju mining and stone spirit potions is recommended if actively playing.
Voice of Seren Trahaearn
When the Trahaearn district in Prifddinas is empowered by the Voice of Seren (occurring every hour), smelting corrupted ore inside Trahaearn will award 20% bonus XP.
This boosts corrupted ore from 160 XP on average to 192 XP per ore. In my experience, 200,000-250,000 Smithing XP per hour is possible using this method. Be sure to world hop to find an active Voice of Seren.
Urns & Enhancers
By using smelting urns in combination with urn enhancers when smelting corrupted ore, it‘s possible to earn 50% bonus XP from the base ore XP.
Assuming 192 ore XP on average thanks to Voice of Seren, this pushes XP rates up to nearly 300,000 per hour. Smithing pet chance is also rolled twice – very nice!
Based on the RuneScape Wiki urn data, I speculatively predict smelting urn & enhancer combos to become even more viable after the proposed 2023 rework. We shall see!
Why Corrupted Ore is Significant
Beyond the raw XP and GP value corrupt ore provides, this unique piece of runic ore enables training methods that integrate both Mining and Smithing.
The cyclic gameplay loop of mining Seren stones then smelting one‘s ore stacks two lucrative skilling activities together quite well. This creates an excellent corrupted ore "ecosystem".
As newer Mining & Smithing content, engaging with these elf city training methods also tells an HD slice of RuneScape‘s rich lore – refreshing after years of Al Kharid dwarven mines!
For these reasons and more, corrupted ore offers an alluring avenue to level up Smithing here in 2024. I plan to utilize it extensively on my ironman journey to 120!
