How old is Brigitte now in Overwatch?

To answer the title question right away: according to the official fictional biography from Blizzard, engineer-turned-squire-turned-hero Brigitte Lindholm is currently 23 years old.

Brigitte‘s Background: More Than Just Torbjörn‘s Daughter

While best known as Torbjörn‘s youngest daughter, the story of how Brigitte Lindholm joined Overwatch‘s ranks is quite unique for a support hero. Many fans first met the scrappy redhead in the Dragon Slayer comic, where Brigitte convinces a reluctant Torbjörn to let her travel with mentor Reinhardt Wilhelm as his squire.

But Brigitte is more than just Reinhardt‘s armor repair gal and Torb‘s kid. When Null Sector ambushes Reinhardt‘s traveling Overwatch museum tour (yes, really), Brigitte dons her prototype Crusader armor and becomes a tank-healing, flail-swinging warrior.

In the linked animated short "Honor and Glory", Brigitte makes her official debut by fighting fiercely alongside Reinhardt to save him and dozens of civilians from the attacking omnics. This gutsy move catches former Overwatch agent Winston‘s eye, and Brigitte is invited back to Gibraltar where she convinces the new Overwatch team to accept Reinhardt back into action (he‘s nearly 61, but still kicking omnic chassis).

How Brigitte Compares to Other Supports

Though one of Overwatch‘s youngest heroes at only 23, Brigitte made an immediate impact upon her addition to the support roster in March 2018. Let‘s see how our flail-wielding squire stacks up numbers-wise:

HeroHealing/SecWin RateRelease DateYears in OW
Brigitte21 HP51.2%March 20184 years
Mercy55 HP47.8%May 20166 years
Lucio16 HP50%Launch 20166 years

So while not pumping out the raw healing numbers of say Mercy or Baptiste, Brigitte offers respectable AOE heals while also providing vital armor generation. In terms of win rate in ranked (per OverBuff stats), she consistently hovers right around 50% after years of balancing patches.

Her unique melee-tank blend of abilities brought something fresh to the support pool upon release. In my opinion as a Plat support main, Brig‘s strengths come from enablers like her Rally ultimate or clutch Repair Packs to save flankers, rather than raw healing throughput. Her shield, armor, and stuns also make her quite disruptive for enemies to deal with.

Backstory Gaps – What We Still Don‘t Know

Even after years in the limelight, parts of the youngest Lindholm‘s past remain shrouded in mystery. For example, we still don‘t know…

  • Who is Brigitte‘s mother? And what is her relationship like with the rest of the extensive Lindholm clan?
  • What was her early childhood like shuttling between Torb‘s workshop and adventures with godfather Rein?
  • Does she have any other mentors or relationships besides her father, godfather and Overwatch crew?

Additionally, there‘s been little revealed about Brigitte‘s personal interests, motivations and character outside of armor/weapon tinkering and supporting her father and Reinhardt. I‘d love to see more on what makes Brig tick!

The Future of Brigitte Lindholm

While Brigitte has firmly established herself as a central hero within Overwatch, there are still avenues left unexplored in her story that have me excited as a fan.

For example, will we see rising tensions between Brig and her father Torbjörn, who originally resisted Overwatch re-forming? What about a possible romance subplot (my money is on fellow engineering nerd Efi if she‘s ever added as a hero)?

And with core plot movement in Overwatch 2 slowing down, I desperately hope she continues to get lore content moving forward! Brigitte has plenty of room left to grow and develop over the next decade. And at only 23 years old, she likely has many adventures yet ahead of her both on and off the battlefield.

In conclusion, while we know Brigitte Lindholm is very specifically "23 years old" as of 2023, there is still so much untapped potential in her story, abilities and relationships! Our bunny-eared Brigitte has more to offer both gameplay and lore-wise, which has me excited to play Overwatch for years to come.
