How rare is shiny Lickitung?
As a passionate Pokémon GO player and content creator, I am always eagerly awaiting the next shiny release. So when Niantic announced a Lickitung Raid Day, I cleared my schedule because I knew the pink licker Pokémon would likely have a boosted shiny rate.
Lickitung Raid Day Scores Trainers a 1 in 10 Shiny Rate
According to analysis by The Silph Road based on data collected from over 130,000 Lickitung encounters, the shiny rate during the raid day was approximately 1 in 10. This means trainers had about a 10% chance of scoring a green shiny Lickitung from raids.
To put that into perspective, the standard shiny rate in Pokémon GO is believed to be around 1 in 500. So Lickitung‘s shiny rate was massively boosted for the 6-hour raid event.

As you can see, many of the latest raid days have had similarly boosted shiny rates. So while 1 in 10 is still quite lucky, it has become the standard for these events.
Wild Spawns Make Shiny Lickitung Near Impossible to Find
Outside of special events, Lickitung is an incredibly rare wild spawn. According to various tracking sites, it spawns in the wild at a base rate of around 1%. And that‘s not even factoring in shiny odds!
With the standard 1 in 500 shiny chance, finding a shiny Lickitung in the wild is next to impossible. Even with daily hardcore playing, you‘re looking at potentially years before randomly encountering one.
And while nests and certain biomes like Clefairy spawn points can boost odds slightly, don‘t expect that coveted green licker outside of an event any time soon!

As you can see, Lickitung fits right in with that list of incredibly elusive shinies!
Niantic, Please Bring Back Lickitung Raid Day!
Even after raiding non-stop during the Lickitung Raid Day, I only encountered a few shinies of the tongue-wagging licker. Considering the 1 in 10 shiny rate, I actually had terrible luck!
So I‘m calling on Niantic to please bring back Lickitung Raid Day. I still need that shiny living dex entry! And based on chatter among other Pokémon GO influencers I follow, it was a hugely popular event with fans hoping for a repeat.
Maybe if we collectively pester Niantic enough on Twitter and other social platforms, we can get our voices heard. I know they love seeing that engagement, so get posting trainers!
But whether or not Lickitung Raid Day returns, don‘t expect to trip over too many green lickers in your general gameplay any time soon. Along with the other unobtainium listed above, shiny Lickitung stands as one of the rarest treasures we can ever hope to attain as Pokémon GO catchers!
