How tall is Atreus?

According to the latest information we have on everyone‘s favorite half-giant archer, Atreus stands at about 5‘7" (170 cm) tall in God of War Ragnarok. He‘s grown quite a bit from the 11-year old boy we met back in the 2018 God of War reboot!

Atreus‘ Background

For those who need a refresher, Atreus, originally named Loki in Norse mythology, is the son of Greek god Kratos and Norse giantess Laufey (also known as Faye). The 2018 God of War kicked off the Norse saga as Kratos and Atreus journeyed across Midgard to spread Faye‘s ashes from the highest peak after she passed away.

Atreus‘ Age and Timeline

In that initial God of War game, Atreus was just 11 years old. However, Ragnarok takes place around 3 years later, just before the prophesied Norse apocalypse. So by Ragnarok, Atreus is a young man of 14 years. Those early teen years often come with intense growth spurts, so it makes perfect sense that Atreus shot up several inches in height over the years.

His Giants Blood

Thanks to his mother Faye‘s Jötunn (giant) heritage, Atreus has quite literally giant-sized genes running through his blood. And while Atreus starts off sickly in the first game, he seems to have grown into his lineage in Ragnarok. This likely contributes heavily to his rapid growth in height between games.

As we‘ve seen from massive giants like Thamur, Jötnar can reach enormous heights in the God of War universe. So while Atreus still has some ways to catch up to his father Kratos‘ height, his giant blood means the sky is the limit for how tall he may end up in future games!

Height Comparisons to Other Gods

To get a sense of scale, let‘s see how Atreus measures up height-wise to some other major figures in God of War Ragnarok:

CharacterHeight
Kratos6‘4" (193 cm)
Atreus5‘7" (170 cm)
Odin~6‘0" (183 cm)
Thor6‘6" (198 cm)
Týr6‘9" (206 cm)

As we can see, Atreus is still about a foot shorter than his father Kratos‘ imposing frame. However, he‘s grown to be taller than Allfather Odin himself, which is no small feat!

Even the infamously tall Thor only has about 7 inches over Atreus now. And while basically every god towers over mortal men, Atreus is reasonably tall by most standards. He‘s certainly holding his own for a young 14-year old half-giant.

Analysis of Cutscenes

We can also analyze certain Ragnarok cutscenes to gauge Atreus‘ updated height compared to the 2018 game. There‘s a memorable scene where Brok first meets Atreus again and is shocked at his growth. Based on their shoulder levels and stance as Atreus walks right up to the ornery dwarf, we can estimate Brok‘s height at about 5‘4".

This puts Atreus at approximately a head taller than him now, whereas back in 2018‘s game, Brok was noticeably taller than the then-scrawny boy. Other scenes like Atreus staring eye-to-eye with his father also give us visual cues that he‘s clearly much taller and not just a little kid anymore.

Reactions to Atreus‘ Growth Spurt

Speaking of characters reacting to Atreus‘ sudden growth, the height upgrade doesn‘t go unnoticed in God of War Ragnarok.

Brok‘s gobsmacked double-take upon first seeing Atreus says it all. Even Atreus cheekily refers to himself as "Loki Giant‘s Bane" now, confidently embracing his giant-slaying lineage. Sindri also marvels at how the wee child he once knew is already shaping up to be a formidable fighter like his father.

Atreus‘ own evolving confidence shows he‘s well aware of his growth in height and power between games. And this maturation foreshadows Atreus‘ long-prophesied role as "Loki" – the notoriously clever, powerful, and twisted god who ushers in Ragnarok in Norse mythology.

How Tall Could Atreus Grow?

At 14 years old among gods who measure their lives in millennia, Atreus is still just a teenager with plenty more bodily growing ahead of him. As we‘ve covered, his giant Jötnar blood means the height potential for Atreus is enormous (pun intended).

While complete speculation, Atreus could plausibly end up as tall or even taller than his father Kratos someday. Perhaps he may only stop growing once he fulfills that terrifying fate as Loki and brings about the fall of gods and destruction of the Norse realms.

But Atreus clearly has a long, long way to go before reaching such mythic heights. For now, he remains under his father‘s wing (and shoulder height) as God of War Ragnarok draws Kratos and Loki‘s journey to its fated end…for now.
