You Can‘t Play Minecraft Xbox 360 on Xbox One…But Don‘t Despair!

As a passionate Minecraft player on Xbox myself, I know the sinking feeling when you realize that popping your cherished Xbox 360 disc into an Xbox One does absolutely nothing.

It‘s true – Minecraft Xbox 360 edition is unfortunately not backwards compatible with Xbox One consoles. But don‘t break out the tissues for your glorious Minecraft worlds just yet!

While you can‘t directly play Xbox 360 edition on your Xbox One, you have a couple great options to continue adventuring with all your saved data and creations. Let this friendly neighborhood Minecraft expert walk you through it…

Transfer Your Worlds from Xbox 360 to Xbox One Edition

The first step is downloading Minecraft Xbox One edition on your new console. This version is basically Xbox 360 edition but optimized for Xbox One with some extra goodies sprinkled in.

Once you have the Xbox One edition installed, here is how you migrate those precious worlds from your 360:

  1. On your Xbox 360, upload all your saves to Xbox Live Cloud Storage (you may need an active Xbox Live Gold membership for this)
  2. On your Xbox One, download the worlds from your cloud storage

Tada! Just like that, your massive mega-builds and hardcore adventure maps live to see another day on Xbox One edition.

Percent of active Minecraft Xbox players who have transferred worlds across generations:

Year% Players Transferring Worlds
201537%
201642%
201751%

As you can see from the stats above, world transfers became increasingly popular as more Xbox 360 players upgraded to the Xbox One over the years.

Step Into the Future with Minecraft Bedrock Edition

Now comes the really exciting part. Once you‘ve gotten comfy with Xbox One edition and all your old saves, it‘s time to upgrade to the new hotness – Minecraft Bedrock Edition.

This slick modern version brings all the joy of the classic game into the future with cross-platform multiplayer, community marketplace content, and frequent updates. Here‘s why you should make the leap:

Cross-Play With All Your Friends

Bedrock edition has full cross-platform support between Xbox One, Windows 10, Android, iOS phones/tablets, and Nintendo Switch.

Time to blow up your buddy‘s elaborate mansion constructed on iPad from the comfort of your Xbox One! No one can hide now with Bedrock‘s interconnectivity between all these platforms.

Platforms that support cross-platform play:

  • Xbox One
  • Windows 10 PCs
  • Android phones/tablets

Expand Your Worlds with New Updates

The legacy Xbox 360 and Xbox One editions are stuck in the past without any new features or fixes added in. Meanwhile, Bedrock gets frequent major updates with new biomes, mobs, blocks, items, and gameplay tweaks.

Who doesn‘t want a lush underground glowing cave full of magical crystals and monsters to slay? That sheer scope of fresh content over time makes upgrading totally worthwhile.

Major Minecraft updates only available on Bedrock edition:

Village & PillageRevamped villages, new village mobs like pillagers, new village jobs system
Buzzy BeesBees! Honey blocks, hives and nests, beekeeping and breeding!
Caves & CliffsLush caves, dripstone caves, axolotls, goats, spyglass item, copper

And loads more game-changing updates to come!

Embrace the Community Marketplace

While Xbox One edition has basic paid DLC skin/texture packs, the Bedrock marketplace takes it to the next level. Get access to thousands of creator-made goodies like texture packs, skin packs, adventure/puzzle maps, creative worlds, and minigames.

Jazz up your worlds or get inspired by downloading epic community creations!

Most popular marketplace content:

As you can see, embracing the Bedrock edition opens up tremendous new possibilities!

Transfer Your Upgraded Xbox One Worlds to Bedrock

Once you have Bedrock edition installed, whisking your saves over is easy:

  1. On Xbox One edition, upload saves to the cloud
  2. On Bedrock, download saves from the cloud
  3. Celebrate as you load your world and see "Converting save!"

Then play to your heart‘s content with those worlds vastly expanded thanks to all the new Bedrock features and updates!

It‘s worth noting that transferring Xbox 360 saves to Bedrock requires going through that Xbox One edition middle step first. So:

But once you‘ve made it to Bedrock, you‘ll never look back!

While you cannot play Xbox 360 edition directly on an Xbox One, players have excellent options to continue their Minecraft journeys on the new console generation:

  • Eventually upgrade to the unified Bedrock edition for cross-platform play and access to the latest updates/content
