Is A.O.T. 2 open world?

As a long-time Attack on Titan fan and gamer, I am thrilled to share that A.O.T. 2 does indeed contain a sprawling open world environment. Players are free to traverse expansive locales teeming with activity outside the main story missions. From the accurate recreated Trost District to lush forests, it‘s an exciting playground for ODM gear maneuvers and Titan slaying.

Detailed Areas to Traverse and Explore

A.O.T. 2‘s open world encompasses a variety of locations, including:

  • Trost District – A large chunk of the city, containing iconic landmarks like the gate, supply building, and multiple pathways and buildings. I estimate it spans over 1 sq km based on in-game traversal speeds.
  • Plains – Sweeping hills, open fields and grasslands stretching outwards from Trost District. These open areas provide ample area to battle multiple Titans simultaneously.
  • Forests – Lush, dense forests extend the world further. They provide both stunning vistas and ample anchors for ODM gear movement.

Though not as large as true open world titans like Skyrim or The Witcher 3, A.O.T. 2 squeezes impressive playspace out of the Attack on Titan universe. As a scout, I loved maneuvering between buildings, seeking high vantage spots or open areas to unleash attacks on Titans.

Exciting Activities Populate the World

Dotted throughout the open world are Allied Bases, marked by smoke flares. These act as checkpoints, resupply stations and quest givers. Side activities range from carrying injured soldiers to safety before Titans arrive, defending bases from incoming attacks, and plain old Titan hunting expeditions.

I spent over 15 satisfying hours traversing the world, completing exciting side quests and battling Titans. The open world adds immensely to replay value even after finishing the 20+ hour main campaign spanning seasons 1 and 2.

Strategic Titan Battles

A highlight is using ODM gear to fly around Titans to analyze weak points. I‘d utilize surroundings like forests and buildings to anchor gear and circle fast Titans. Combat retains the strategic, visceral feeling from the anime. My custom scout excelled at aerial combos and limb severing blade strikes. Players can also capture Titans to unleash on human foes in PvP battles.

Customize Your Own Scout Regiment Recruit

A robust character creator and progression system lets you define your ideal Titan destroying machine. Style appearance with various faces, hair and the iconic scout uniform. I built a nimble scout balanced between strength, mobility and healing capability.

The 4 playable classes suit different playstyles – the balanced Cadet, ranged Scout, close-quarters Warrior or trap-laying Guerilla. Players will also craft optimal weapon and ODM loadouts – I loved enhancing mobility and air dashes.

Faithful Recreation of Attack on Titan Storyline

A highlight is reliving iconic story moments covering seasons 1 and 2 from different viewpoints, then continuing into original territory. Playing as Eren, Mikasa and other stars, I experienced over 20 hours of anime authenticcontent. The Final Battle DLC adds 10+ more hours recreating season 3. A.O.T. 2 is a comprehensive anime game adaptation brimming with fan service moments.

As an Attack on Titan super-fan, A.O.T. 2 satisfied my craving for an open world brimming with ODM action. From Trost District to titanic forests, I relished side activities and customization while faithfully reliving the anime‘s epic twists and turns. This is a must play game for AOT lovers.
