Is cod zombies gone in 2024?
Zombies mode is currently gone from Call of Duty Mobile as of 2023, having been removed by Activision in March 2020 due to quality concerns and a desire to reallocate development resources. However, there is a deep history of a beloved zombies mode across multiple Call of Duty titles on console and PC over the years.
Why Zombies Was Removed from COD Mobile
Zombies first shambled its way into Call of Duty with 2008‘s World at War,develpoed by Treyarch, and quickly grew a devoted fanbase across subsequent Treyarch titles. But when ported to the mobile platform, it failed to reach the threshold of polish that Activision demanded.
In an official March 2020 statement, Activision said:
"Zombies mode is being removed from Call of Duty: Mobile because it was not reaching the level of quality that we desire. We have removed the mode temporarily with the goal of being able to bring it back in the future with a much higher level of quality."
Based on previous communications, it seems focusing developer resources on strengthening multiplayer and battle royale took priority over salvaging an imperfect mobile zombies port.
Could Zombies Return in Future Call of Duty Games?
Rumors have swirled since the mode‘s mobile removal that zombies could shamble back onto platforms in a future title, perhaps as soon as 2024. Respected industry insiders, like Tom Henderson, have reported hearing that:
"Treyarch‘s two studios are both working on zombies for the studio‘s 2024 title, with one focused on the main mode & the other functioning in a support studio capacity."
Treyarch innovated the zombie formula over multiple sequels, hitting peak popularity in Black Ops 2 and 3. As the original zombie masters, Treyarch would be the dev studio best positioned to revive the PvE horde mode should Activision greenlight its return.
In my opinion as a long-time COD fanatic, a new zombies experience in 2024 could generate serious buzz and drive sales, if executed properly. Zombies still retains hardcore niche appeal amongst Call of Duty diehards.

Zombies has managed to cultivate lasting appeal across over a decade worth of titles, evolving the campy co-op mode into an intricate Easster Egg-filled phenomenon.
