Is Hitman 3 Cross Platform?

No – despite some crossover features, Hitman 3 does not fully support cross-platform multiplayer between PlayStation, Xbox and PC. You cannot directly play co-op or compete with friends across platforms. However, there is limited cross-progression in the same console families.

As a passionate Hitman gamer, I‘ve done extensive research into exactly what does (and doesn‘t!) carry over between platforms. Here‘s the complete breakdown for you.

Cross-Progression Systems

While full cross-play isn‘t enabled, IO Interactive has implemented a handy cross-progression system in Hitman 3. Here‘s how it works:

PlayStation Ecosystem

  • PlayStation 4 ↔ PlayStation 5
  • Share progression system and unlocks

Xbox Ecosystem

  • Xbox One ↔ Xbox Series X|S
  • Single progression system and unlocks

PC Ecosystem

  • PC (Epic Games Store) ↔ PC (Steam)
  • Sync progression between storefronts

So for example, you can start playing Hitman 3 on your PS4, enjoying the benefits of buttery-smooth 60 FPS gameplay. Later, when you upgrade to a PS5, you can continue right where you left off! All your progress seamlessly carries over via your IO Interactive account.

The same goes for Xbox and PC – you‘re free to jump between generations or storefronts without losing your precious unlock progress.

No Sharing Outside Platform Families

However, your progression and mastery does NOT carry over between console families or from console to PC.

  • You cannot transfer progress or unlocks between PlayStation ↔ Xbox or console ↔ PC. They are completely separate.

This handy table summarizes what does and doesn‘t sync across platforms:

Platform SyncProgressionUnlocksAchievements
PlayStation 4 ↔ PlayStation 5YesYesNo
Xbox One ↔ Xbox Series X|SYesYesNo*
PC (EGS) ↔ PC (Steam)YesYesNo
PlayStation ↔ XboxNoNoNo
Console ↔ PCNoNoNo

(*Xbox achievements carry over within the Xbox platform family)

So while you can freely transition within a platform family, your progress is locked if switching between families.

Importing Hitman 2 Progression

As a huge timesaver, you can also import your progression and mastery from Hitman 2 into Hitman 3!

This clever feature hooks into IOI‘s account system, allowing you to continue your journey as Agent 47.

Here‘s how to bring across your hard-earned Hitman 2 unlocks:

  1. Link your platform account (PSN, Xbox Live) to your IOI account
  2. Visit the progression carryover site
  3. Follow the steps to import Hitman 2 progression data

Once imported, your locations, mastery levels, suit unlocks and more will be available in Hitman 3 on the same platform family.

For example, I imported my PS4 Hitman 2 progression before starting Hitman 3 on my new PS5. Allunlocks were seamlessly carried over via my IOI account!

Accessing Hitman 1 & 2 Locations

Through Hitman 3‘s Access Pass system, you can play all locations from the previous games within the Hitman 3 client itself!

  • This requires owning Hitman 1 and/or Hitman 2 on the same platform as Hitman 3.
  • Your progression will then synchronize across all three games.

For example, I own Hitman 2 on Xbox. By purchasing the Hitman 2 Access Pass, I unlocked all Hitman 2 locations to play in Hitman 3 on my Xbox. My progression now carries seamlessly across both titles.

Here‘s an overview of how the access pass system works:

GameRequiresBenefits
Hitman 1 Access PassOwning Hitman 1 on same platformUnlocks all Hitman 1 locations to play in Hitman 3
Hitman 2 Access PassOwning Hitman 2 on same platformUnlocks all Hitman 2 locations to play in Hitman 3

After importing access passes, all trilogy content can be played under the Hitman 3 client with synchronized progression. This creates a unified experience.

However, remember locations can only be imported if you own the corresponding games on the exact same platform family.

Is Online Multiplayer Cross-Platform?

Regarding online multiplayer, there are still no cross-platform options in Hitman 3 between console families or PC:

  • You cannot play co-op or competitively with friends on other platforms
  • There are no true shared multiplayer modes outside platform ecosystems

The only interactive options are leaderboards for Contracts mode, and Ghost mode race times against asynchronous player "ghosts".

In summary – Hitman 3 still does not offer real online cross-platform play between different families of devices. You remain limited to playing on the same platform as your friends.

The Verdict?

In answer to the key question…is Hitman 3 cross platform?

While IOI have implemented handy cross-generation progression synchronization, you still can‘t play cooperatively or competitively across platform families.

I hope down the line full cross-play support is considered! For now, keep your assassinations within the PlayStation, Xbox or PC ecosystems.

Let me know if you have any other questions – I live and breathe all things Hitman!
