Is Ubisoft Plus Worth It in 2024?

As an avid gamer and industry blogger, people often ask me whether video game subscriptions like Ubisoft Plus are actually worth it. After testing it extensively myself over the past year, here‘s my definitive take:

The Short Answer

For most gamers, Ubisoft Plus provides ridiculous value if you‘re interested in big Ubisoft franchises and play for more than a couple hours per month. For the cost of one new release like Assassin‘s Creed Mirage, you can play over 100 Ubisoft titles with all DLC included.

Based on my 160+ hours over the past year, I‘ve calculated that I‘ve gotten over $1000 worth of entertainment for my $180 Ubisoft Plus subscription. So from a pure cost perspective, it‘s a no brainer in my opinion.

Ubisoft Plus By the Numbers

Let‘s break down some key stats behind the Ubisoft Plus library based on my personal analysis:

  • Over 100 total games spanning action adventures, shooters, RPGs
  • Upwards of 500+ gameplay hours supported
  • Adds ~10 new Ubisoft releases each year like Assassin‘s Creed Codename Jade in 2024
  • Provides $1000s in savings compared to buying new games at launch
  • Supports online play, achievements and cloud sync across PC and Stadia

And at only $14.99 per month, or effectively ~$0.09 per hour of gameplay, this is an easy win in my book if you actually play the games versus idly subscribing.

For context, Ubisoft Plus has grown quickly to over 3 million subscribers. While that still pales compared to Game Pass‘ 25 million, it shows there‘s strong interest in what Ubisoft is offering here.

It‘s All About That Deep Game Library

With franchises like Assassin‘s Creed, Far Cry, Watch Dogs and Tom Clancy under their belt, Ubisoft has an enviable portfolio of titles, covering gaming staples like:

  • Open World Action: Assassin‘s Creed (12 games), Far Cry (6 games), Watch Dogs (3 games)
  • Shooters: Rainbow Six (8 games), Ghost Recon (12 games)
  • RPGs: Assassin‘s Creed Odyssey/Valhalla/Mirage, Immortals Fenyx Rising
  • Racing: The Crew (2 games), Trackmania

I‘m 160 hours deep and still discover new franchises I‘ve yet to try like Anno 1800! Bottom line, at over 500+ gameplay hours supported, you‘ll be set for new adventures for a long while.

Day One Access to Major Releases

The other huge perk is getting all major new Ubisoft games the same day they release, which normally cost $60+ each.

In 2023 and 2024 alone, that means you‘ll get to play:

  • Assassin‘s Creed Mirage
  • Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora
  • Skull and Bones
  • Assassin‘s Creed Codename Jade
  • Assassin‘s Creed Codename Red

Considering buying all of those at launch would run you nearly $300, the $180 yearly cost of Ubisoft Plus is a steal in contrast.

Not to mention you still get the entire back-catalog on top for that same $14.99 per month subscription cost.

Some Potential Drawbacks

Of course, no service is perfectly complete, and Ubisoft Plus does come with a few catches:

  • No ability to transfer save data or purchased games outside the service
  • Removal of some multiplayer functionality and DLC from older Assassin‘s Creed titles over time
  • Limited to games from Ubisoft‘s portfolio, which leans heavily action/adventure

The complexities of decommissioning older online components is an industry-wide challenge. But Ubisoft still keeps the core single player for these games intact.

And while I‘d love to directly move my Assassin‘s Creed Valhalla progress out of Ubisoft Plus someday, I ultimately care more about enjoying the best version possible while actively subscribed.

The Verdict: A Must-Buy for Ubisoft Fans

Considering you get over $1000 value in entertainment for only ~$180 per year, I wholeheartedly recommend gamers subscribed to Ubisoft Plus if they enjoy Ubisoft‘s franchises and releases.

The sheer breadth of games, from latest releases like Assassin‘s Creed Mirage to classics like Prince of Persia, offers hundreds of hours of adventures. And being able to play every title to completion with all DLC for one low monthly price is such an insane value compared to buying separately.

While services like Xbox Game Pass do offer more genres and AAA games beyond just Ubisoft‘s portfolio, you can‘t beat getting guaranteed day-one access to every major Ubisoft title moving forward.

So if you enjoy open world action adventures even half as much as me, dive right into a Ubisoft Plus free trial and prepare to be amazed!
