Is Landorus Coming Back in 2024?

The short answer is – yes, Landorus is officially scheduled to return to 5-star raids from April 11th through April 17th, 2023! For one week next month, trainers will once again have the opportunity to battle and catch the imposing Ground/Flying-type legendary.

As a longtime Pokémon GO player and content creator myself, I couldn‘t be more excited. Landorus has been one of my favorite legendaries since it first appeared back in the spring of 2021. Its unique design, beefy stats, and versatile typing have made it a mainstay in the Master League meta.

Let‘s take a deeper look at why Landorus returns when it does and how you can prepare to take on this legendary force of nature when it touches back down later next month!

Why Does Landorus Keep Returning?

As a region-exclusive legendary first found in the Unova region games (Pokémon Black/White), Landorus has become a regular special event appearance since its Pokémon GO debut on March 23, 2021. Here are its past returns:

Return DateLengthFormShiny Available?
March 23, 20212 weeksIncarnateNo
April 13, 20211 weekTherianNo
May 1, 20212 weeksIncarnateYes
April 26, 20221 weekTherianYes

Based on this pattern, we can expect Landorus to continue alternating between its two formes with 1 week raid events, usually in the March-May timeframe. Its Ground/Flying typing is a strong, unique combo in GO Battle League, whether you‘re using the Incarnate or Therian forme.

And as more trainers build up candy to power up the CP cap (which can go up to 3859 CP!), Landorus only becomes more relevant in the Master League meta. That recurring importance and versatility likely explains why Niantic keeps bringing it back seasonally.

What Will Landorus‘ 2023 Return Look Like?

When Landorus returns this April 11th, we can expect:

  • Incarnate Forme – Landorus‘ initial muscular humanoid form
  • Same movesets – With fast moves Mud Shot and Rock Throw and charged moves like Earth Power and Superpower
  • ★★★★★ 5-star raids – Bring your top ice/water/HP grass type counters!
  • 🪙 Shiny Variant – The shiny purple/pink form will be available
  • 💯 High IV/CP Potential – Level 25 raid boss means 1859-3859 max CP

No other surprises or changes are confirmed at this time – we‘ll have to wait and see if the Therian Forme also ends up rotating back at some point later this year!

Now let‘s talk strategy – how should you prepare your raid party to take on Landorus later next month?

Building The Best Landorus Raid Counters

Thanks to its double Ground/Flying typing, Landorus has the following key weaknesses in Pokémon GO:

Some of the top counters recommended against Landorus include:

PokémonFast MoveCharged Move
MamoswinePowder SnowAvalanche
Galarian DarmanitanIce FangAvalanche
WeavileIce ShardAvalanche
KyogreWaterfallSurf
KinglerBubbleCrabhammer
RoseradeRazor LeafGrass Knot

Stacking teams with Mamoswine, Darmanitan, Weavile and other ice types will enable you to burn through those Landorus raid boss HP bars the fastest!

Mega Evolving Abomasnow is also hugely effective given the added 30% damage bonus it provides. And don‘t forget to have Glaceon, Articuno, and other solid counters powered up as backups too. With the right preparation, taking down Landorus at its 1859 CP raid level should be very achievable for most players.

Now let‘s move on to catching strategies once you win the raid…

Catching Tips For Landorus

Beyond just winning Landorus five star raids, you‘ll also want to make sure you successfully catch the beast too! Here are some key tips:

  • Golden Razz Berries – Use these each attempt to calm and maximize catch rate
  • Curveball Excellent Shots – Wait for attack animations to end before throwing
  • Shiny Check – Tap the menu after the catch encounter to see if it shimmers pink/purple!
  • Coordinate With Friends – Catch CP values will differ, compare highest ones after
  • Power Beyond Weather Boosts – Trade high IV specimens to reroll CP potential

And don‘t get discouraged if Landorus flees at first – it has a lower 2% base catch rate as a legendary, so it may take multiple successful raid completions before you bag one! Persistence and coordination with fellow local trainers is key.

Between April 11-17th, I highly recommend focusing all available daily raid passes on hunting the re-returning Incarnate forme Landorus. Hopefully you catch a few weather boosted and high IV specimens to power up for Master League and as future trading fodder!

A 2023 Pokemon GO Legendary for the Ages

As you can see, Landorus remains a huge draw – as both a top-tier Ground/Flying type raid attacker and defensive force in PvP. Every chance to add this unique legendary beast to your Pokédex and build up candy counts over time is one worth taking.

And with shiny hunting odds in the mix, plus the potential for even more perfect IV grinding when its Therian forme returns later this year, seasoned Pokémon GO trainers always get hyped when Landorus comes flying back!

So rally up with your local raid groups, prep those ice type counters, and get ready to welcome Landorus back with open arms from April 11-17, 2023! It promises to kick the legenday raid rotation into high gear as we transition into spring.
