Is rank 20 a guaranteed legendary?

Yes, if you reach rank 20 in the Go Battle League (GBL), you are guaranteed to encounter the legendary Pokémon that is currently available in five-star raids. This encounter will happen regardless of how many wins you have at rank 20.

Number of wins to reach each GBL rank

  • Rank 1-7: Reach each rank
  • Rank 8: Win 8 battles
  • Rank 9: Win 9 additional battles
  • Rank 10-17: Reach each rank
  • Rank 18: Win 18 additional battles
  • Rank 19: Win 19 additional battles
  • Rank 20: Complete 5 additional battles

At what rank do legendaries become available?

You need to reach the Diamond rank in GBL for the current season to get access to the Legendary Queue. Once you reach Diamond, the Legendary Queue will remain unlocked even if you drop back down in ranks that season.

Legendary encounter and perfect IV rates

In Season 10, Niantic changed GBL legendary encounter and catch rates:

  • 16% chance to encounter a legendary after winning battles
  • Easier to catch than normal wild encounters

The base odds of catching a perfect IV legendary are:

  • Wild catch: 1 in 4,096 or 0.0244%
  • Raid catch: 1 in 216 or 0.46%
  • Research reward: 1 in 216 or 0.46%

So your best bet is to raid or do research tasks for high IV legendaries.

Maxing out legendaries in Patch 9.2

In WOW Patch 9.2, you can upgrade legendaries to:

  • Item Level 291 (Rank 7)
  • Requires Rank 7 base item and 2,000 Cosmic Flux currency

With two equipped legendaries, this unlocks their full potential.

Tips for catching legends

The best way to catch legendary Pokémon:

  • Defeat them in 5-star raids
  • Team up with at least 5 other players
  • Use Golden Razz Berries to boost catch rate
  • Curveball throws increase catch rate more than any other throw bonus
  • Be patient – legends can take many throw attempts to catch!

Additional key details

  • Daily battle limits normally 5 sets of 5 battles = 25 battles
  • Great League CP limit is 1,500
  • 0% IV Pokémon (nundo) are rarer than 100% IV (hundo)
  • Lake Trio – Uxie, Mesprit, Azelf – are some of the rarest roaming legends

I hope this guide gives you lots of useful tips and info for taking advantage of legendaries in GBL encounters! Let me know if you have any other questions.
