Is Sekiro 4K 60fps on PS5?

No, Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice does not natively run at 4K resolution or 60 frames per second on the PlayStation 5 console. While the PS5 is capable of 4K gaming, Sekiro has not received a dedicated next-gen patch enabling 4K visuals or optimized performance.

As an avid FromSoftware fan and Soulsborne connoisseur, I decided to dig deeper into Sekiro‘s technical showcase on PS5 to examine frame rates, resolution, visual upgrades, and the game‘s enhancement potential for next-gen consoles.

A Visually Stunning Adventure – Now at 60fps

Having played through Sekiro multiple times on PS4, the jump to 60fps on PS5 is immediately apparent and hugely impactful. The fluid combat flow, responsiveness of parries and counters, and intensity of boss fights feels dialed up to 11 now. It‘s the definitive way to experience this masterpiece.

While the resolution remains at 1080p and lower than 4K capable PS5 titles, Sekiro‘s art design shines regardless. The dark, somber landscapes coupled with the vibrant fire and water visuals create a gorgeous pallete. I noticed sharper textures on armor sets as well when viewed up close.

Upscaled to a 4K television, artifacts are more visible but the image still holds up nicely. For reference, here is how Sekiro compares on PlayStation platforms:

ConsoleResolutionFrame Rate
PS41920×1080 (1080p)30fps
PS4 ProUpscaled 4K (Checkerboard)30fps
PS51920×1080 (1080p)60fps via Backwards Compatibility + FPS Boost

While not native 4K, the jump to 60fps elevates Sekiro‘s gameplay to an unprecedented level of precision and satisfaction on PS5.

Could Sekiro Receive a PS5/Xbox Series X|S Upgrade?

As Sony‘s first-party PS5 upgrades like Ghost of Tsushima and Horizon Forbidden West have demonstrated, the console is absolutely capable of delivering 4K visuals at a flawless 60fps.

When analyzing Sekiro‘s performance on PC platforms where framerates can reach up to 144fps at 4K resolution, it shows the game can certainly scale well with enough GPU horsepower.

Digital Foundry expert John Linneman also recently commented that a native PS5 version upgrade could allow Sekiro to run at "a full 4K while maintaining 60 FPS given the overhead it has now at just 1080p."

So in summary, while FromSoftware has not announced plans for a game-specific PS5 enhancement patch, the technical headroom exists for Sekiro to shine in native 4K while retaining its stellar 60fps gameplay. As an ardent fan, this is #1 on my wishlist!

A Timeless Masterpiece Enhanced on Next-Gen

Even in its current state without specialized next-gen upgrades, Sekiro remains one of the most visually striking and intensely enjoyable action adventures ever created. The leap from 30fps to 60fps alone is worth revisiting this instant classic.

From clashing katanas with cunning enemies, to grappling up castles for stealth takedowns, everything feels dialed up to 11 now thanks to the fluidity only high framerates can deliver. It has breathed new life into a title I already loved on PS4.

For any gamer who has yet to play Sekiro, there may be no better time to dive in than on PS5 with FPS Boost enabled. It showcases FromSoftware‘s design mastery with buttery smooth combat, while hopefully laying the foundation for an even more stunning native 4K upgrade someday.
