Yes, the Isle of Skye DLC is 100% Free in AC Valhalla

I‘m shouting this from the rooftops, folks – Ubisoft is letting us get our hands on the Isle of Skye story arc at zero cost. For all you Valhalla fans still pillaging England, it‘s time to set sail for Scotland!

What This Free DLC Includes

Compared to the 20+ hours of content in paid expansions like Wrath of the Druids or Dawn of Ragnarök, the Isle of Skye offers a shorter yet sweet addition. Clocking in around 60-120 minutes, you‘ll Help Irish bard Ciara on a personal quest while taking in gorgeous new environments.

Specific goodies up for grabs include:

  • A complete narrative revolving around Ciara and her brother Barid‘s disappearance
  • 3 new island regions covered in striking highland landscapes
  • A handful of entertaining side activities like boat racing
  • 3 ability upgrades across range, melee, and stealth classes
  • More tattoos, hair customization, settlement buildings, and river raid loot

So while nowhere near game-changing, Isle of Skye gifts loyal players a pleasant experience for a nice price of zero dollars.

Satisfying Story Sets Up Ciara Romance

Without dropping heavy spoilers, the self-contained tale here centers on tracking down Ciara‘s long lost brother Barid. He disappeared years ago while visiting Skye, causing Ciara no shortage of heartache and regret.

Obviously, any DLC featuring a potential love interest piqued my interest right away. And spending a few hours helping Ciara achieve closure proved genuinely moving. Her requited feelings afterwards felt earned and made the island romp fulfilling.

Of course, the signature AC lore and Isu beats still weaved into Skye maintained that mystique I‘ve come to expect after hundreds of series hours. Even if brief, this adventure encapsulated the franchise‘s secret history vibes perfectly.

How The Heck Is This Free?

I‘m sure many of you still burn from dropping $40 apiece on titles like Dawn of Ragnarök or Siege of Paris. So gazing upon FREE DLC likely causes some skepticism.

But developers occasionally launch complimentary content updates to either win back players or maintain positive buzz. In this case, Ubisoft probably wanted to keep Valhalla visible while building anticipation for 2023‘s Mirage.

Releasing quality post-launch content without a pricetag also triggers goodwill and incentivizes fans to either revisit Valhalla or potentially make in-game store purchases. Ultimately benefiting the company and us gamers alike!

Valhalla‘s Full DLC Report Card

Before wrapping, let‘s assess how Valhalla‘s mammoth slate of expansions has fared since late 2020:

Siege of Paris15 hours7.7/10August 12, 2021$24.99
Dawn of Ragnarök20+ hours8.7/10March 10, 2022$39.99

Reviewers praised Wrath of the Druids for its Celtic atmosphere and refreshing focus on more grounded political conflict rather than chasing warlords. Dawn of Ragnarök also wowed audiences by introducing crazy mythological abilities and giving us our best glimpse yet at Norse afterlife realms.

Siege of Paris faced criticism for feeling somewhat recycled and rushed to meet its summer 2021 street date. Though I still enjoyed battling Charles the Fat alongside my Viking brethren.

No critical consensus exists yet on Skye‘s quality but considering its brisk playtime expectations remain measured. Regardless of reception, Ubisoft deserves props for continuing to nurture the Valhalla ecosystem 16 months later without only relying on paid updates.

What Does Valhalla‘s DLC Future Hold?

While players still cling to hope of even more content drops, recent announcements hint The Last Chapter serves as the concluding piece. Focus now shifts to Basim and the Mirage stealth sequel arriving next year.

But given this enormous IP‘s profitability, I struggle believing Ubisoft willfully abandons their prized Viking era forever.

Perhaps 2024 sees a surprise Blood and Gore pack adding decapitations back into the fray? Or my dream Legendary Battles DLC pitting us against iconic figures like Achilles throughout history?

For now though, Isle of Skye provides one last free hit for the road. See you in Baghdad, Basim!
