Is there going to be a God of War 6?
Yes, God of War Will Almost Certainly Continue
As a passionate God of War fan and gaming commentator, I believe there is a very high chance the franchise will see a sixth mainline entry based on developer intents and the series‘ continuing success. However, God of War 6 may take surprising new directions rather than continuing the previous Norse saga.
At the end of the epic, emotional finale God of War Ragnarök, Atreus departs alone on a mission to find the remaining Giants while Kratos stays behind to guard the realm. This open-ended conclusion gives Santa Monica Studio freedom to explore fresh settings and mythologies outside of the Norse realms covered in the last two games.
In multiple interviews, franchise director Cory Barlog and Santa Monica developers have strongly hinted that Kratos and Atreus‘ story is far from over, though they coyly stop short of outright confirming God of War 6. While firm details are lacking, Barlog in particular seems very excited about future possibilities the Ragnarök ending enables.
The God of War Franchise Remains Popular
With over 23 million copies sold worldwide across five mainline entries not counting the just-released Ragnarök, God of War stands tall as one of Sony‘s most beloved and financially successful franchises. Gamers consistently praise its gripping narrative, savage combat and jaw-dropping spectacle.

God of War 6 Could Launch by 2027
2018‘s God of War reboot took roughly five years to develop. Given Ragnarök‘s narrative openness and production team job listings for future God of War efforts, I speculate God of War 6 could release between late 2025 and mid-2027 assuming a similar timeline.
Santa Monica Studio is expanding, recently adding a second office. They are actively hiring across departments for work on undisclosed projects strongly suspected to be God of War related. Job descriptions mention "enriching a beloved PlayStation franchise" and "thriving on innovating game design and storytelling."
Of course, nothing is guaranteed. But all signs point to more epic Kratos adventures arriving before the end of the decade, perhaps featuring Atreus as lead protagonist. The future looks radiant for one of gaming‘s most treasured franchises. God of War‘s adventure is far from finished.
